Lots and lots of freshwater fish exceed 10lbs here in The Great White North
Lakers ( Bobby's Fish ) Jack or Norther Pike... Sturgeon... Channel Cats...
A friend of ours caught a 12lb Walleye her first time out ( very big for a Walleye )
Northern Saskatchewan has more Yanks fishing up there than Canucks
They come mainly for the fish ... but the Beer is better too!!

Re: ANYONE INTERESTED IN FISHING
Hocks, I caught a 7' Sturgeon on the lower columbia....when the keep limit was 3-6 feet....after a one hour battle.....just carved date caught on the scales....and released.....Sturgeon and cat fish go both ways.....once we sell our home here....plan to fish in Canada and Alaska.
David is correct.....Canada calls them lake trout....we call them Mackinaw...normally in USA, we use down riggers....as they are deep.

Yes, that's correct. We call them lake trout or "lakers". I caught this fellow about 80 feet down on a large watermelon Apex Spoon. Anything silver and black was also hitting good. I also caught a couple of 6 lb rainbows on a white rubber leech about 30 feet down.
I can't wait to dig in on some of those sailfish...........
Re: ANYONE INTERESTED IN FISHING
OMG fresh rainbow trout - I would kill to eat one of those. My grandfather fished in the mountain brooks in California and brought home fresh trout. Never had anything so good in my life.

Re: ANYONE INTERESTED IN FISHING
When I was a young pup back in the 50's & early 60's, we used to go to: http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/
and fish from canoes for Lakers. In the early spring before the waters warmed, these fish were near the surface and we fished with light tackle canoe trolling at less than 20 feet. Lots of fun coaching them in on light gear.
Years later (70's), our favorite lake was: http://www.utahoutdooractivities.com/flaminggorge.html
Again if one fished at the right time of year, you could catch German Browns in the shallows. Germans or Rainbows in the 15 to 25lb range were not unusual and a whole bunch of fun on 4 or 6lb test line and light gear. Never fished for Lakers because we were never there when they were in the shallower water but Lakers in the 40 to 50lb range were not uncommon.

Jim:
Once again, you are relying on faulty info! While they may have told you that at Lake Tahoe, a 15.2lb German Brown caught in 2008 would have been classified as a MINNOW! Please read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_trout
How about 41.45lbs caught in Michigan in 2009? You have to get out of bed much earlier in the morning to catch me telling a tall tale when it comes to fishing!

Re: ANYONE INTERESTED IN FISHING
Wrong Buckwheat! You might try using spell check before you post - bows?
How about some references:
http://www.luhrjensen.com/downloads/tech-bulletins/513WyomingUtahFlamingGorge.pdf
http://wildlife.utah.gov/fishing/recfish.php
By the way, I fished with nothing but Rapala's given to me by their factory testers when they showed up at the Lake to test new product.

Re: ANYONE INTERESTED IN FISHING
OK now here's a fishing scenario that occurred on the weekend:
Fisherman #1 hooks into a fish. The fish swims across the lines and fisherman #2 hooks onto the same fish although thinks he has a different one and starts reeling it in. #1 thinks he has lost his fish cause all the play is gone from his line now. #2 plays the fish all the way to the boat and into the net. #1 sees his hook in the fishes mouth and claims he gets credit. I said "he who nets it gets it". What do you fellows think?

Throw it on the barbie and who cares who caught it! After enough rum and cokes or tequila and whatever - who cares?

I’m with “Cheena”, just get it on the grill. Of course the guy that parks it gets the credit. He proved himself, the other guy we will never know if he could have, No?

Re: ANYONE INTERESTED IN FISHING
I'd say it's fisherman #1's fish as he would have the right of way with a fish on if no one else was hooked up. Another point would be fisherman 1's hook was probably in the fishes mouth and number 2 probably snagged the fish or line and either way, no way. Of course being behind a few beers, which I'm confident you guys were, the fish would belong to the bigger guy.

O.K. another scenario; #1 hooks the fish and breaks his line at about the same time #2 hooks on. There are just too many ifs, No? That’s why I’m for who parks it, gets it, there really needs to be minor rules however who puts it on the grill first gets my vote.
