Swarming at Mario's!
Ok, just back from talking to Jaime. They are happy we have chosen their restaurant, and said basically any day we want they can accommodate us. They even asked us what special we'd like.
They are closed on Monday, I can't go Tues, someone else said they can't go Thurs, but ni modo. If you guys want to go Tues I can eat there anytime and can catch up with you next swarm. You guys decide. They asked that I give them a head-up when we decide and how many.
For the specials. . .Jaime said ribs, chiles rellanos, or basically whatever we want they could make. Here is a little website that gives an idea: http://www.accesslakechapala.com/guide/restaurants/marios/
So, lemme know!

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
You may want to post directions to Mario's - there are probably some people who don't know where it is. I'll put it on the events page also.

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
Mona and Zed will be there.
Go to Plaza in San Antonio. Stand at south of plaza. Catholic church
is accross the street. Go toward Ajijic (west) on road between plaza and
church. Marios will be on the right just a short ways from plaza.
If you are walking from Ajijic you can take the bridal path road (horses) east
through La Floresta and it will take you all the way to the plaza in San Antonio.
Marios is just before the plaza on the left if you come from Ajijic.

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
Ok:
Turn toward the lake on the one-way down street into SAT that is one block east of Super Lake on the carretera. I think it's MBE and the hardware store on the corners. Go a couple of blocks and the street stops at the plaza/church. Park. Walk west of the plaza and it's mid block mas o menos, north side of the street. Green front with large sign and sliding screen doors.

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
I'm sorry I will miss this one. I belong to three luncheon groups and this Friday there are two luncheons so I'll be at the other one this week. But I will be doing my duty to patronize a local restaurant.
I don't know if this is too way out for the group but I hear the Egyptian restaurant just off the plaza in Ajijic is hurting also. One day last week I was at the fabric store next door and the restaurant was empty - I went in and had a meal and the food was delicious. It was my first time there but typical middle eastern fare - hummus to die for, various egg plant dishes, fallafal (chick pea mashed and fried), tabouli, and many entrees. For those addicted to hummus and tabouli, etc. they are also at the Tuesday market in west Ajijic selling these items.
What is the consensus, should we add them? And Jasmine's has reopened (they closed for a month because business was way off when it was hot) - only open Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun from 4pm to 7pm. They are on the south side of the square in Ajijic near the Egyptian restaurant.

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
Thanks for the clarification - you would think I could read my own posts on the Events page! I suggested to the owners that they may get more business if they open earlier. So any thoughts - should we add the Egyptian restaurant and Jasmine's to the list?

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
ALL restaurants are hurting and ALL restaurants should be given a chance to be on the Swarm List except for Panino, Ajijic Tango and Gossip's all of whom are always busy.

They also have more A la carte items now and a back yard shade area built.
I am going at 2pm to check it out. Will report.
Went to Cairo Cafe last night. Excellent. Do try the 20pesos fruit milkshake, Mango, strawberry, and Banana. It goes
so well with the food. Never had bad food from these folks. Nice addition to the village and two minute walk from home.
No booze but what do you expect in a Arab Cafe. Walk down to Yves and get a couple of his Mohitos after dinner is my
suggestion. Yves always makes a nice drink.

Mario’s Restaurant is located half a block from the San Antonio Plaza. If you don’t have a car, the small buses go through town and stop at the plaza. It is an interesting area to visit on your way to Mario’s.
Address: Ramon Corona #132
Town: San Antonio Tlayacapan
Open: Tuesday – Sunday
Hours: 9pm – 5pm
And might as well post a link to her article about Mario's - http://www.accesslakechapala.com/guide/restaurants/marios/

Re: Swarming at Mario's!
You know, I do not give s**t about foreign owned restaurants. Let them live or die on their own. These folks had to prove they had enough income to live in Mexico without working and then had to apply for a work permit to open their restaurants. I do not care about Domino's, Subway, Bubba's. Mel's Diner, Ajijic Tango, Angelica's Bistro. Go le Club. La casa del Waffle, La Nueva Posada, La taverna dei quattro Mori, Number 4, et al. Clearly, I am speaking only for the swarming events, as I frequent and enjoy many of these places, but they should not benefit from our swarming, as if they folded up their tent, they would still be able to live and survive here. Not true with others.
Thought the idea was to help our local Mexican neighbors. It seems to have gone way off track and now folks are just suggesting their favorite restaurants, so that if we choose that restaurant, the person who posted the suggestion can go to the owner and say look what I did for you.
Deteriorating thread and someone needs to grab it by the balls and get it back under control. May I suggest the OP, who probably had no idea what he was getting himself into with this wonderful suggestion?
My thoughts. Give me your best shot, but I will probably not change my mind. chico
