My gardener's son's school in Ajijic is closed, teachers closed it because of the perceived threat.

Re: After Tonights Meeting on Ajijic Plaza Please Post the Facts
My maid said her children( 8 and ten years old) we not in school today
due to the school closing. She lives in the six corners area in Ajijic.
The thirteen year old stayed home from her school(apparently not
closed) to care for the younger ones . She said the closing was for
the rest of this week- they would be notified when school would
open again.

My maid from Ajijic told us this AM that school was closed in Ajijic too. I was taking her home on the road from the Farmacia GDL and a Federales truck came speeding by heading to the Carretera, no flashers on.

All the information you people seem to get is from your maids, gardeners and workers,is that pretty much the extent of your interaction with the mexican community? How sad.

Yes, and isn't that how it should be? We Americans and Canadians are foreigners here. We're not part of their culture. Some Americans and Canadians think that if they learn Spanish that they can be friends with the Mexican people. This is not true as we are foreigners who are not accepted into their families here.

Folks while the authorities always try to make things out to be black and white
much of what happens is gray. I have no doubt some of the actions in mexico
by the authorities is to fight more politically subjects than narco/crime action.
This happens in the United States. I can quote a case where a US cit. has been
arrested while taking pictures in the Ballard Canal in Seattle while Japanese
tourist are taking movies films and pictures of the same canal.

That's your reality John but it's not shared by everyone. We have several close Mexican friends both at Lakeside and in Guadalajara. We are Tia and Tio to some of their kids and Abuela and Abuela to others. Never the less, I can understand why they wouldn't accept you into their families.

How would you know if you don't speak Spanish? Do you understand the difference between friendship and being "accepted into their families"? Do you understand anything? You're the gift that keeps on giving.

viajero wrote:Your'e not saying the PRI politicians in Michoacan were clean are you?Which party was running Tamaulipas when those escapes happened? It's obvious that el Chapo has protection provided by the PAN,just look at the botched attempt to capure him in Baja recently, saved by the "pitazo".Too bad the women who work in the maquiladoras are'nt protected as well as the maquiladoras are.The PAN has been dissapointing to say the least.Too bad Marcelo Ebrard isn't a candidate, with him as president there might have been some change for the good,as it is Mexico will be stuck with Salinas de Gotaris'godson for president, picture that.
No, of course I'm not saying they were clean. And the prisoners in Tamaulipas that were let loose were from the Gulf Cartel. The massacres they perpetrated were against suspected Zeta sympathizers. I've forgotten if it was under PRI or PAN jurisdiction.
The only points I'm trying to make is that to look at this conflict through NOB eyes is guaranteed to produce a distorted understanding. For example, one of the questions I've heard all of this last week is "Why are they abducting and butchering random, innocent victims. How does this hurt another cartel?" Well if you look at it from a NOB point of view, it makes no sense at all. But if you understand what "calentar la plaza" signifies, then it has it's own gruesome logic (I'm not saying this is what is happening, but you should be aware that it is a possiblity).
I'm not saying that I understand most of it. But I do know enough to know we're not in Kansas anymore, and I think that anyone who feels the "war on drugs" will be won by force, incarceration, and prohibition are hopelessly misguided.

John which schools were closed? I was supposed to meet with a friend to pick up something from her and she told me not to come between 12.30 nd 1.30 because she was picking up her 2 children at school so neither the Primeria nor the secundria were closed in upper Ajijc.

Re: After Tonights Meeting on Ajijic Plaza Please Post the Facts
FROM ONE OF MY AMIGAS HERE IN JOCO:
Returned from another bullshit meeting with Mario Chavez, presidente of Joco. Last night at his big meeting in the Joco Plaza people were demanding he resign IMMEDIATELY even though the election is a month away. He is denying all kidnappings, addressed the extortion calls that are from Taumulpas, near the border. I am pretty sure I have had about 4 but thought it was a political group and said, "sorry, not interested and hung up"
When the parents of the kidnapped children in San Juan demanded Mario sign a paper contradicting the kidnapping of their missing kids, Mario refused. Everyone went nuts evidently. Good for them , I say.
Chapala had a more intelligent meeting with the commandante from there who admitted everything was pretty much true, etc.
Friends told me at one point the cammandante of Chapala was trying to calm folks by saying the the 18 dismembered body parts were not really 18 total bodies and that later in Ajijic the cops raided a house with a big feezer, with body parts also but some of those body parts belonged to the other body parts in Ixlahuacan.
They said one gringo was taken and released and the traficantes told him they were not interested in the Gringo community...So why did they take him??!! and then just let him go???! Yeah, like THAT happened.
They really must think we are idiots. Anything to soothe the savage beasts.
The meeting in San Juan was packed, mostly Mexican, they were totally disgusted with the meeting also. Carlos Najera did not even show but sent a soldier to give the message that it is was everyone's responsibility to report everything, Of course, they offered no additional protection, of which there is NONE, and people have been killed for this, then the new FAT commandante of Joco said we should all come up in person after the meeting to report anything and it would be totally anonymous- Can you imagine?????!!
Anonymity in person---am I missing something here or is this guy a total MORON.!!!!
And then a guy started taking a video of everyone who was at the meeting with his cell phone and being very obvious about it.. Of Course, I was sitting right up front so I could better understand the Spanish.
NOW Mario's WIFE is running for the new Presidente!!!
Anyway, I left when the question and answer thing started and the first guy was from Tlaquichilco, which he could not even pronounce and neither could the Director of Public Security, which is Chapala-Hello????
Just being vigilant and living my life. I still feel less stress here than I did in the US trying to make a living and the way the election is shaping up, I may just vote for the Libertarian Gary Johnson.
A Mexican friend of mine was stopped by state police 2 days ago, who are here for civil protection, TWICE on the way back from Chapala and they extorted $50 USD each time.
Well that is the news from here. I have to go now and report anonymously in person any suspicious activity,,,which is mostly the police, by the way.
