Your Media Expectations? Empty Your Media Expectations?

Post by CheenaGringo Wed May 09, 2012 12:32 pm

Most of us accept the fact that US and Canadian media reports on Mexico tend to be biased towards sensationalized news reports that often lack accurate details. Now I am not picking on John but he often requests confirmation on an event from the newspapers and have to wonder just what type of confirmation is expected? Since many don't read Spanish or understand how to use a translation program, am I wrong in assuming that they are looking for a confirmation written in English? Is it an expectation of those from the Lake Chapala area that the Guadalajara Reporter is the only definitive source of news for the area?

As for the Mexican media, I personally feel that there has been a degradation of the reporting over the last couple of years. One can attribute it to the fear that has been forced upon the journalists through the killings, kidnappings or intimidation tactics by the cartels or it could be that the negative events are simply everyday incidents and no longer provide the sensationalism desired to sell papers.

How can you expect truth in reporting when journalists have a bounty on them in Mexico? If someone cannot learn how to use a translate program or register a Twitter account they Don't deserve to know the news. When people report on a foru m what a maid;Gardner etc relates in confidance just accept what is being told. The truth usually comes out in a reasonable time frame. Accept the fact that the truth may never come out.
