For those of you who haven't picked up on this from TOB, apparently Pancho passed away yesterday and the funeral is tonight. Apparently the restaurant will be closed for a three day mourning period and then Lupita will be reopening.

How sad it is that Pancho passed at such a young age. He was a loving husband, father and benefactor to many local causes. He will be missed by more than knew him. RIP Pancho, you did good.

Re "David's" query. Apparently a small calibre bullet to the temple, a surgically precise assassination, a cartel speciality. I'm thinking a reluctance on his part to pay more "protection" to the gangs, so much easier to now deal with his widow. If the restaurants prices jump again I think we'll have our answer. I think we expats/gringos/as , etc. as a $ source are feeding this phenomenon. Sad. WE favour an establishment and their Insurance goes up. It's the reality and it's corrupt, as is Mexico - to the bones. That being said, It's a great place.

Naw... He asked about rumors I told them where they were. I didn't say what they were and I answered his question if he
chooses to go there and read the rumors. The other board has relevance because we talk about it all the time. What is irrelevant
for you may not be for other folks.

Zed, I didn't ask about rumors. I asked about the cause. I agree TOB has relevence. However, it's often difficult to separate fact from rumor.

Where did you come up with the "cartel specialty" bit?

This kind of rumormongering is not helpful. Do you know for a fact this is what was happening?

Post by oncesubtle Sun May 06, 2012 9:25 pm

Just received the following forwarded e-mail:

Los Cinco Potrillos has reopened, and we hope everyone will continue to support this wonderful family and this amazing restaurant in Ixtlahuacan.

First, we must stop some of the rumors going around...Pancho was at his ranch west of Guadalajara when he was shot. It apparently was part of some personal family feud...very sad, but Ixtlahuacan and Los Cinco Potrillos are still safe.

We hope you will continue to come visit our area. One of our friends is going to talk with Lupita tomorrow, and we should have more information later, but we wanted to give you a heads up that the restaurant was again open.

We all know the Lake Chapala area has experienced some 'snakes in paradise,' but most of us who live here would not live anywhere else. I am happy to call this area my forever home, and I hope we're able to support this restaurant and family the way we always have.

Thank you for your help. And we would appreciate your sharing this information with your friends.

Abracitos,
Karen
P.S. I apologize if you get this message more than once.
