Re: Motor vehicle registration
I picked up a 2000 Pontiac Montana. Seats 7 and has all the bells and whistles including dual climate control which is good for those in the back. Great road trip vehicle.

Good van but the tranny is the weak part like many GM vehicles of that era.

The tranny seems to be the weak point in all the domestic mini vans be it GMC, Ford or Chryslar.

why is that? Is that problem consistent to trucks too?

No not as much as the mini vans. Basically they are for example Taurus transmissions in windstars. Basically older minivans have
medium size FWD car transmissions slightly modified for mini van use. Many of the trannies were not modified enough. Some older
1/2 ton pickup have problems but most of the big vans and pickups are pretty good. The MINI Vans seem to have the big problems.
Newer trannies are much better. They do things to lessen the tranny wear compared to older transmission. An example of this is newer
automatic transmissions retard the engine timing before shifting to lesson the wear as much of the wear comes during shifting and if you
lower the power during the shift the tranny last longer. However while newer trannies are better quality they also cost about four times
as much as an old cast iron automatic. AS CB said they shorted the life of the trannies for many of these minivans especially 80 to early 90s.

Re: Motor vehicle registration
Ok I got it registered. Interesting process. I am going to get insurance through Parker's.
Re: Motor vehicle registration
Call me before you get insurance, not all companies are equal and you don't want a company that will leave you high and dry when you need it o delay coming to Chapala while you are sitting in jail.
