Re: Curp
The office I used is in Ajijic. It's the corner building on Colon across from the plaza. The woman who does then is in the office on the left as you walk into the building.

Re: Curp
No cost, it's an ID number which is not needed by visitors.

Re: Curp
I love a snipe hunt (boys camp days) .... and that's was it was a few years ago here. There's a little Municipio office next to Sorianas in Manzanillo where people have been getting CURP cards. After coming out as a proud owner of a CURP ... I realized they copied the one from my FM3 that Immigration had already given me. The more laminated cards I have ... the more I feel at home here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unique_Population_Registry_Code
The Clave Única de Registro de Población (translated into English as Unique Population Registry Code or else as Personal ID Number) (abbreviated CURP) is a unique identity code for both citizens and residents of Mexico. Each CURP code is a unique alphanumeric 18-character string intended to prevent duplicate entries.

Re: Curp
Yes and you too can use Carlos Slim's CURP like many thousands have done:
"I register my cel with Carlos Slim CURP SIHC400128HDFLLR01"
"I register my cel with Carlos Slim CURP SIHC400128HDFLLR01"

Re: Curp
CURP also needed to have IMSS, a tax ID #, capital gains exemption for homes, professional licenses, and much more.

Re: Curp
Curp became important here as Lloyd did or did do some reporting, no sure what they violated but then there was a big push for everyone having an account there to go to Guadalajara and get one. We did gave them the number and whatever the problem was, went away and since then very little talk about it until the phone registration and then it will go back into oblivion for foreigners. it is a patern...

Re: Curp
O.K. here's the deal on the CURP.
http://consultas.curp.gob.mx/CurpSP/
If you want to get yourself one of those plastic IMSS cards you're going to need one. According to a sign in front of the IMSS office in Chapala it will be necessary in the future to have the plastic card.
Now, click on the URL provided above. Get out your FM2 or FM3 and have a look on the front, on the right hand side next to your photo. There you will find a CURP number. NO, don't stop now. On the top of the page there is a section for people who know their CURP number. Put in the numbers. No, don't stop now. Do not fill in your name or anything else just fill in the number. On a P.C. the actual window may be obscured, so click off the original page and your name etc should appear. Print it out, on the printout there will be a folio number. This is important, I have no idea why, but it is.
This is pretty much like a Social Insurance number NOB.
I happen to have an FM2, however I'm pretty sure it will appear on an FM3 as well.
Good luck.
BTW some people may tell you you have to go to city hall and pay to get this, not true.
Got the plastic card, no problem took about an hour.
