Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
Yep remember the Google cry "Do no Evil" well you can throw all that do
good shit away. Google is now evil like everybody else. Sad yes the person
is right who says this new policy sucks. It means they can do anything they
want give it to anybody they want. Pretty soon we are all going to be
encrypting our data. Maybe sooner than I thought. Folks it might be time
for folks doing business or politics to pay for an email account that has a
little bit more privacy than google is doing with its new policy. For example
Google could sell your data to your competitor. Yes it would be legal under
the new contract although I doubt if Google would do such but they could.
Can't wait for the future.....NOT

Yea, and how bout this jewel....^^^^^ and......
Now that is a crock...restrict your ability to delete or edit information or privacy settings.
and, just what does this exactly mean?????
WTF ???Take information out of many of our services

Oh well..... Maybe some else can figure the implications of this better than I... Although some of it seems damn clear to me..

It means as I said before Google can do anything they want to your data or give anything they collect to anybody. If you go buy your email
you will get better service and much much more privacy and not have to deal with stupid non consumer friendly policies like Google is forcing
you to agree too. You can't negotiate with google over these things. So if free is the most important thing on your list than continue as normal
but if you have issues regarding your work, politics, and just plain privacy it is time to leave google. To bad the products were pretty good
quality. They have decided this is how they are going to make money selling your information or using it for themselves.

Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
So, everybody that thought Google was a public service doing everything for everybody for free hold up your hand.
I will continue to use google services because I like them.
Do you think that when you go on-line to sears or walmart that they don't keep up with your shopping and searching.
For those that dislike these companies "snooping", just go to the stores, pay cash and carry it home in your own car. But dont throw wrappers into the trash.

I'm figuring they were probably already doing this for years, so maybe a few people found out, now they're telling us all about it.

I think you're right, requeteer, but then, I'm the Luddite who said that anything you put on the internet, anywhere, might as well be on a highway billboard..... in terms of privacy. I imagine that potential employers, insurance companies and general merchants will pay well for all that heart to heart conversation.
You may start out thinking there's a free lunch until you get your just desserts.
Or, as the Borg in my fave sci fi program said "You WILL be assimilated".
For those who have finally "had it", there is "Seppukoo" (sp?) for Facebook.

Gringal, I'm just happy to be retired, I am also a confirmed luddite.
Maybe it's time to start flooding the net with unintelligible gibberish so the Google snoops have something to do?
Facebook? Do people really think their daily lives are all that fascinating? There's little hope for facebook users IMO, unless they're using it for business purposes.

Thank God the TSA and Homeland Security is protecting us from the terrorists! They are collecting information on everybody they can and now have corrupted Google. By whatever means do they work.

Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
Here is an article I just found that involves the FBI and Homeland Security seeking more approval to wiretap into the internet to gather information.
http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2012/01/26-3
It did not turn blue...what did I do wrong? I guess you can copy and paste it. Sorry, I just thought you all were getting tired of my posting entire articles on my Posts. Speaking of being a Luddite.

Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
google never protected privacy. its a business out to make $. every email you send if its web based, is looked at (& maybe non web based). not by a person, but a machine of sorts, it picks up on specific words. for example "DOG", then the machine concludes you want dog ads. at first i thought that it was only web sights the machine recorded, i read it is also emails. & i read that mark zuckerberg has a deal w/the govt. they use face book to track people & find information.

Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
Folks every phone call, every email etc etc is sent to Australia and read and
sent back to the folks at the NSA in Washington after being sorted (look for
the word bomb etc etc etc) to avoid the US government spying on its own
population which is illigal however it is not illigal for the australian government
to spy on us. If you want to know more look up "Echelon"
on Wikipedia and read about it. Not a US only thing. It might be legal now on
the Patriot act for the US to spy but Echelon has been going on for a long
time. The US government has handed all your communication to a foreign
government whether you like it or not. The best thing you can say about this
is at least they are our friends in Australia.

I read it. Good stuff. Back when I was an avid sci-fi reader, imaginative writers predicted this kind of world and lo and behold: here it is. Might as well make up a bed for Big Brother, since he's moved into the house without an invitation. For those who say "I haven't anything to hide", I say they must have lived an really dull life.

How about "I don't have anything to hide that I care about" then?

Good-o if that works for you.
Now, on to my mini soap box: I'm an advocate for personal freedom. Way back when, I did my share of marching for the cause.
There is no freedom without privacy. When the govt. and private industry is allowed to open your mail, listen into your "conversations" and monitor who your friends are or what their convictions may be, you are not living in "freedom". This is not what those who founded the U.S.A. had in mind, even though they tolerated slavery and failed to give half the population the right to vote. Otherwise, they created good foundations to build on, whereas fear (and industry greed) is now pushing the country in the direction of totalitarianism.
I'm done now. Twitter, post, and Facebook away. Hope it's worth it.

Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
Given the popularity of Facebook, My Space, Twitter, Google+ and a variety of other social networks, isn't a message being sent that people don't care about their privacy? Anyone posting their minute by minute activities and bragging who and what they are for the world to see cannot really turn around to say I want my privacy protected. Pretty much of a one way street once you start that foolishness!

I could not agree more. Where does this stop? Presumably we'll all be living in Orwells' Elysian fields before long. As far as I'm concerned the line was crossed into totalitarianism with the intrusive measures introduced by the TSA, and that fact alone has kept us out of the U.S. for the past 6 years. We will not be returning, nor will we fly through on our way to anywhere else.
As for the press, we now have a full fledged ministry of propaganda. Bin Laden was our Goldstein, until they rubbed him out for the 9th time, and looking at the offerings on the political front who can deny the following statements.
War is Peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is power.

I have to agree with CG on this one. Obviously, some just don't care.
Hope they enjoy the Brave New World coming down the pike.
Or maybe we just belong to an era where these things mattered.
Hive mind, coming up.

Re: NEW Privacy Policy GOOGLE USERS
Come on folks. you must be pretty naive about what has been going on in your lives for at least 20 years. Accept the fact that the govt knows when you get up in the morning and when you go to bed. What makes you think this is anything new????
