Following a current murder investigation - and (we hope) arrest and trial. Empty Following a current murder investigation - and (we hope) arrest and trial.

Many of us in the US are following events about the death of Monica Beresford-Redman at a resort near Cancun. Her "disappearance" followed loud fighting and door slamming in their room. Her nude body was found a few days later in the sewar on the property. Her husband is vacationing around Mexico while waiting to be arrested - OR released and allowed to return to the US. I discuss this case with others on a message board called Insessions - here is a link if you are interested: hope it works for you. http://boards.insessiontrials.com/index.php. The Beresford Redman case is under the Current Crimes threads.
Despite the husband's obvious opportunity and motive he still has not been arrested. As a matter of fact - it rather sounds like the lead investigator is taking the man's word for the idea that the marriage was just fine and this concerns us. http://video.aol.ca/video-detail/ktla-crucial-test-results-expected-soon-in-monica-beresford-redman-murder-investigation-and8212-rebecca-hall-reports/1099170636/?icid=VIDLRVNWS04. This greatly concerns us.
There is a great deal of information (emails, texts, etc.) showing that he was having an affair: his wife took all their joint funds out of the bank and stated to family and friends that she was divorcing him. He convinced her to try this family vacation (he insisted on a large and unusual insurance policy on her life a few days before they left) supposedly to try to get her to give him another chance to remain in the marriage.
We are aware that authorities must proceed with caution - that in Mexico you are guilty until proven innocent. But we are wondering why this is taking so long. Granted no one saw him do the deed. And he is a rich American.
Does "circumstantial Evidence" not count in Mexican law? Here is a guy who is scratched up: who says his wife left to go shopping (without her purse) and whose loud and violent fight with her was heard and reported - along with the door opening and closing 11 times.
Are there any attorneys here who might be interested in shedding some light on the system there? Can anyone give us some idea of what to expect here? Why its taking so long or what weight circumstantial evidence might carry? Hope so.
Thanks.

No one has any info to enlighten us? Oh well - it may all be moot. The Mexican authorites seem to be unable to find Bruce Beresford-Redman to question him or charge him anyway.

Yes - I just saw that on CNN. I wonder how he managed that if he had relinquished his passport in Mexico? Or maybe the authorites forgot to take it from him.
So I wonder what happens now. I hope this isn't a recipe for how to get away with murder in Mexico. Do the deed (if he did), take a vacation around the country for awhile and then go home to the US. easy peasy.

He probably applied for another passport at the consulate or just walked across the border and even without a passport they would let him in after a secondary inspection.

birdwatch, you must be smoking crack. The MX authorities did indeed take his passport. But, millions upon millions of undocumented immigrants have entered the States through MX and you ask wonder how he accomplished that? LMFAO!!! Besides, Spencer is right.

Can't imagine why he'd want to return to the states... sounds like you've already convicted him!!

How much do you really think you know about the case??

Not necessarily related... but I'm reminded of an article which categorized deaths of tourists in Mexico.... Seems a large number of foreigners travel south to the beautiful beaches, just to have a shot of tequila and then end it all...

But you probably saw it on Fox or CNN so it must be so...

As I said - If he did it (did you skip that?) so I don't know why you are also giving me such a hard time.
Originally I was just looking for someone who might know something about how things work in the legal process in Mexico. The many written reports on the case (including witnesses to the screaming and crashing of furniture, copies of the texts to his girfriend, his anger at his wife for cleaning out their bank acct. and announcing her intention to leave him and take the kids) simply indicated the likelihood of arrest of the husband. I don't know if he did it - just trying to find the answers to some "how things work" questions. Clearly not your forte.

Maybe she beat herself up and strangled herself and jumped into the nearby sewar, I don't know. But I gather, in Mexico, if you are charged with a crime you are guilty and have to prove yourself innocent. Which leads us to some other questions.
I realize you don't think I should even have an opinion - but are questions also not allowed? Sorry if I have also bothered you in some manner.

Well without physical evidence it is all circumstantial. Mexico doesn't really have a CSI (SEMEFO exists but it is nothing like the US). Also money talks and the legal system here is a criminal's paradise with low prosecution rates and criminals with money can get away with murder.

Don't pay any attention to the grumpies, birdwatch. I caught what you were asking. I haven't been here long enough to know the ins & outs of the legal system yet but it doesn't look good as far as this guy being innocent or guilty. This will be interesting to watch how it all plays out. I just hope the guilty one gets the mas.

Tossing someone in a sewer sounds like rage & not someone unconnected to the dead person.

"his anger at his wife for cleaning out his bank acct, and announcing her intention to leave him and take the kids"

That's not first degree murder, that's
justifiable homicide.

"Francisco Antonio Alor Quezada, attorney general for the southern Mexican state
of Quintana Roo, said a judge in Cancun had issued an "order of arrest" against
Beresford-Redman, 39, in connection with the crime of "qualified homicide" in
the death of his wife, Monica Beresford-Redman, 41, who apparently was
strangled."
