Police Disbanded in Veracruz
"VERACRUZ, Mexico — The entire police force in the major Gulf coast port city of Veracruz was dissolved on Wednesday and Mexican officials sent the Navy in to patrol.
The Veracruz state government said the decision is part of an effort to root out police corruption and start from zero in the state's largest city.
State spokeswoman Gina Dominguez said 800 police officers and 300 administrative employees were laid off. At a press conference, she said they can apply for jobs in a state police force, but must meet stricter standards for an agency with officers "who are better trained and more committed and who can deliver under our current security circumstances."......................

Since this was a NOB media source, I also wanted to confirm in Mexico media:

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
Hopefully that also means higher pay for those who qualify for the State Police.
Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
Would you care to speculate where the higher pay comes from?

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
Not posting the entire message because it contains all of the usual BS. But this message from the US Embassy in Mexico City does contain some actual news info:
"From: acsmexicocity@state.gov
To: eco.bolsa.mexico@gmail.com
Subject: Emergency Message For U.S. Citizens From U.S. Embassy Mexico City – Bus Attacks In Northern Veracruz
Sent: Dec 22, 2011 5:14 PM
Early in the morning of December 22, several vehicles, including three ordinary passenger buses, were attacked with gunfire in northern Veracruz state, resulting in several deaths. One of these buses was traveling on Highway 105 between the municipalities of Panuco and Tempoal.
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City reminds American citizens to exercise caution and remain vigilant when traveling in the State of Veracruz. American citizens residing in, visiting, or traveling through the northern portion of Veracruz that borders Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi should maintain a heightened sense of alert. Americans in this area should monitor local news and information to stay informed about situations that could affect their security. The Embassy also reminds American citizens to avoid intercity road travel at night. ..................................

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
As a follow up-apparently there were a total of seven people killed on the buses, three of which were US citizens.

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
GG, I KNOW YOU GOT THE FACTS INLINE. I personally think this thread belongs in the Octagon. I thought it was agreed, that these posts hurt members trying to sell their homes....So 7 people were killed.....how many were killed in Detroit, Chicago, last night? I am not trying to start a fight......I have no fear walking the streets here....but if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time...shit happens

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
Probably Bob's call? It does tie into the story about the police being disbanded and the situation in that particular part of Mexico. Are any members of this forum selling homes in Veracruz State?

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
Keeping the crime stories in the Octagon has nothing to do with people selling their homes. The would be Crapola's reasoning...........
My reasoning has to do with tourism, immigration and the state of the local economy. I think if there is imminent danger to the residents of Lakeside then by all means it should be in the general area so everyone gets the message. If it is crime in general with no direct bearing on the area then lets keep it in the members section.

Re: Police Disbanded in Veracruz
this forum is not about chicago & detroit. it is about mexico. it is not about real estate, & selling homes. (thank you). so far, all crime is discussed here. both local & out of area. people need to know about bus travel, which recently has been dangerous. both in this area & out of state as well. octagon is @ the discretion of mr. B
