Re: Gringa killed?
I wish him luck in SoCal. Unless he can figure out how to remain an out of state resident, he'll be taxed to death. Everything else costs an arm and a leg. My brother lives there, it is still damned expensive. You gotta take out a second mortgage to go out to eat and forget about hiring anyone to clean your house.
No thanks. Been there, seen that.

We're a bedroom community for Memphis and we don't have to lock our doors. Surely we aren't the only place that isn't up to our armpits in armed robbers?

How about Havana for a 1957 Ford Fairlane in good running condition and an apartment in Old Havana plus daiquiries and Cuban sammiches. I considered Buenas Aires but understand they dress up to go out to dinner so that´s out. I guess all that´s left is Marseilles where everything is fine unless one goes down the wrong street and gets one´s throat cut by a pissed off Algerian. I must give this some more thought.
Forget Buenos Aires, it's gone downhill fast, crime is just unreal, and the streets are all ripped up. Even the nicest area Recoleta looks like crap.

Our little Mountain Town in Colorado doesn't have any place I would be afraid to walk. We don't lock up unless we are going out of town.
I sure wouldn't want to live in Denver though, or even the Springs.... give me a population of no more than 7,000 any day. Lizzy

I think it all boils down to whether you live in a large town or a small one.

Crime? My hometown newspaper NOB is like reading a horror story, full of stabbings. Sweet little college town. Oh, yeah. Not these days.
Did you already forget the heads and headless bodies they used to find around there in 76? I remember being slightly freaked driving a convertible up there in the San Cruz Mountains.

Don't be silly, Dawg... Colorado is a frigid hell only during the winter... and it does kill off the fleas, you know...
We like the "winters" in Sunny San Carlos... it's one of those small towns we were speaking of... Laid-back-land.. Lizzy

To my knowledge there was no gringa killed. Can we move on here, or continue to discuss something which didn't even happen.

Re: Gringa killed?
Who could forget that? However, I didn't move to Santa Cruz County until '79, so missed that part of the horror story. Today's news: Monterey County, CA, has the highest murder rate in the state.
36% is drug related. That leaves a lot of bodies from other causes.
Other than that, it was a nice place to live seven years ago.
We've never been back, but old friends visiting here say: "Don't. it's worse". Too bad.

Remember Big Ed Kempererer who killed his mama and then cut off her head so she couldn´t see him rape her corpse? Ah, yes, Santa Cruz circa 1976. The Murder Capital of America. I had a colleague at County Bank of Santa Cruz whose father was a deputy sheriff and neither he nor his associates would make a crime call in the Santa Cruz Mountains without backup because it was so dangerous up there. What a shithole. The fattest vultures in North America cruised those hills.

Here is one more addition to your "popularity" count. The devil is making me do it.
Newsflash. You are, or are pretending to be, a young person. What you are getting out of posting on this board, mostly comprised of the over 50 gang, is way beyond my comprehension...... unless you're nuts.
That's a definite possibility.
However, no matter who you are...........you, too......if you stand around on this planet long enough........will one day be an "old person". You, too, will have more memories of past times than you know what to do with. Hopefully, you will have some sense by then and won't get too carried away about sharing them, since you would then be an old bore instead of a real or pretend young bore.
Ageism is one of the most illogical prejudices of all, since we all share our mortality.

Re: Gringa killed?
We all share our mortality...but the "aged" have a shitload more experience.
Got a lot of phone calls lately because I just turned sixty...said to one of my daughters-in-law "ain't so bad being sixty, sure am glad I'm not 25 again". She didn't agree until I pointed out that being 25 again came without all the knowledge that she had accumulated since then. She changed her tune in a hurry.

Ain't that the truth..........as in "If I'd 'a known then what I know now, I wouldn't 'a done what I did then."
I wouldn't mind having that 25 year old body back. Worked a lot better!
...and from now on, you get to say "I made it to sixty" and so on forth.

Re: Gringa killed?
"Susan" is apparently having an identity crisis.... no only are we unsure of the gender of she/he/it, but now it remains to be seen if she/he/it is suffering from 'young and stupid', or 'old and bitter'.
-Ya know, she/he/it is just too long to bother spelling out. Perhaps it deserves to be abbreviated....?
A little imagination goes a long way, eh, Ladies? Lizzy

Used as subject: Nominative case - she/he/it = sheet (as in, "What the sheet?")
Used as object of preposition "of": Objective case - her/him/it = hermit (as in, "Go back into your cave, hermit.")

Re: Gringa killed?
Well... that could be one interpretation Señor C-Bob...
or... if we eliminate the "he" as being redundant, since 'he' is included in 'she' (as far as spelling goes)... the abbreviation would be she-it.
Lehrer, ol' chum... that was indeed a masterful interpretation. You are becoming delightfully devious in your advancing years... just goes to prove why old age and cunning* will always triumph over youth and beauty.
*According to Mr Webster, cunning = craft = power (from the old English) Lizzy

Ah, yes....
This reminds me of one night at La Bodega after I had sung "Cuando Calienta el Sol" (in Spanish) at a karaoke get-together. After the song, someone yelled: "I didn't know you were bi-lingual!" and I replied: "Oh, yes! I'm a cunning linguist!"

Hah! You must have me confused with someone else, 'cause I haven't sung there since before Cindy left that venue. Javier & Marta loved me. As a matter of fact, Cindy cut a CD for me -- for my progeny & posterity (for what it's worth).Mainecoons wrote:Sheesh, I think I heard you caterwalling over there. You mean that she took your CD and cut it up?
I'm a little weak in English these days. Trying to learn Spanish pronouns has termiinally confused my elderly and alcohol fogged brain. Dawg understand that last part I know.
