Maybe by January they will have an age limit on it. I can slide in under the limit. LOL

There's an age limit on it now. It only applies to those over 18, so you should be good for another couple of years. :-)
What people are not understanding is that this has to do with the entities who issue facturas, not just those who receive them. CFE, banks, insurance providers, etc, will not be allowed to issue facturas, which they are required to do, without you giving them your RFC.

I have been a resident here at lakeside for over 12 years and have never had the occasion to have needed a factura.

You aren't understanding this at all. It doesn't matter whether you need a factura or not. These entities like banks, CFE, insurance companies, etc, are going to be required by SAT to ask for the RFC info of all of their clients and customers. It is they who must submit facturas for their earnings to SAT, (facturas are used for income as well as expenses), regardless of whether the client needs or requests a factura. Therefore they need to show SAT from whom they received that money.
Get it?

So if I don't get a RFC number will CFE stop billing me?

Why don't you try it and find out if they cut off your electricity for non compliance.

I have no idea how service providers will have to deal with customers who don't comply.
You still don't seem to understand that it isn't the service providers who are calling the shots on this, it is the Mexican tax dept.
And what is your resistance to getting an RFC number? It's just something you have to comply with, just like getting a residency permit if you live here. It isn't your choice, it's the law of the country you have chosen to live in.

so many rebels without a cause and just because they have extra time on their hands.. They should go back to the States and fight the IRS if they want to really fight.. now that is a real nightmare but SAT?? That is for the amateurs.

I know, it's like just because they decided to retire in Mexico, they resent having to deal with anything difficult, as if the Mexican govt. should cater to the fact that they can't speak Spanish or figure out how anything works and get fussed about such things.

Why are you getting so judgemental towards an individual you don't even know. Who is merely voicing my ideas and opinion.

Not directed towards you personally. General comment only.
However, you haven't voiced any ideas or opinions, just indicated that you don't want to get an RFC for some unknown reason, and don't see why you should have to.
In any case, ideas and opinions are irrelevant and pointless as far as getting an RFC. The Mexican tax dept. has decreed that everyone over 18 needs one. End of story.

You have to wonder how many Mexicans will get a RFC. The ones I talk to don't seem aware of it or aren't interested.

Can you imagine every person in Mexico having an RFC number? Never going to happen.

The people who don’t get one don’t need one. If they need one they have it or soon will. As you have already been told. Do what you want. If you have guessed right nothing will happen. If you are wrong you will learn all about the law and what you need to do to fix the mess you got yourself into. Some people actually enjoy this. It becomes their new hobby. But with enough money and/or connections anything can be fixed. You need one or the other. The less you have of the latter the more you will need of the former. Some people see getting the number at their own convenience a simpler and easier choice. Others are a fan of FAFO. As always, the choice is yours to make.

Yes. Just as pretty much everyone in the US has a social security number and everyone in Canada has a social Insurance number.

Most every Mexican has a curp number. They should use it for all pertinent info. Don't you think that would be less involed than adding another thing that must be maintained.

What we think is irrelevant.
And an RFC number doesn't need to be "maintained". It is one's RFC number forever, just like the CURP. Printing out an updated Constancia when needed is easy once you have the RFC number and a password to the SAT site. Just as you can print out your CURP paper in about 3 minutes.

Re: New RFC Requirement for Expats, From the Mexico Daily News
I do not many people in Chiapas with a RFC number but many city people I know in Guadalajara have one.. so it is a question of the type of work people are doing, little by little more people will have one but most people lI know who are artisans are flying under the radar. They all have INE and CURP but most of them want nothing to do with facturas, They will eventually have to have one as they go out to fairs and use the gadgets for credit cards.. it is just a question of time but no one is in a hurry..
More and more business want facturas when they buy from their suppliers so eventually it will happen.

Re: New RFC Requirement for Expats, From the Mexico Daily News
I have had a room rental on Airbnb for years, and flew under the radar for years, as did many people who rent. But about 2 years ago, SAT made Airbnb start charging and collecting the IVA and income tax and occupancy tax, part of which they withhold and submit to SAT, and part they release to the host to submit. So that's an example of how SAT made everyone comply and pay taxes on their rentals.

Yes, that would seem logical. But that isn't how it works, so what we think they "should" do is irrelevant.
The CURP is a personal id number from Citizenship and Immigration. The RFC is a number from the tax dept.
The tax number could be in the name of a company, for instance, not an individual. It's a different thing.

The Mexican government should have done this years ago. It will be a gold mine for them.mudgirl wrote:karjoeaz wrote:Most every Mexican has a curp number. They should use it for all pertinent info.

Re: New RFC Requirement for Expats, From the Mexico Daily News
The INE and CURP are the documents that are the most important. Any government program for help for scholarships ets requires a curp and a INE so far I have not seen documents requiring RFC, it will be interesting to see if it changes..
