The Racquet Club was still out this morning. A friend there couldn't make it to breakfast this morning because she couldn't get her car out. Apparently piston type doors do not have a manual release.

Usually there is a button on the bottom of each piston that releases them OR there is a removable pin where each door connects to the piston.

It was beyond her and she's really small in stature and on her own. If she got out, who would perform the reverse on the inside? She could I guess but that's a complication not worth it. I just have to pull a chain and push the door then reverse push to close and lock it after I got out. Not fun but doable, then the car could stay on the street until the electricity was restored.

And how would the ambulance or taxi get in if someone was incapacitated needed oxygen or CPR? Have to go in on foot carrying emergency equipment? A few minutes can make the difference between saving someone's life or not.

Lots of people here without cars. Call the ambulance and they come in/break in through the front door.........

If you use a pair of pliers it is fairly easy.
