Re: Power Outage Ajijic
Yep here too although mine is a "brown out" where half my house still has power. Fortunately it is the half with my fridge, water pump and internet modem. I reported it to CFE.

Brownout this morning next to the big church in Ajijic. It must have started last night some time after 9 because my adjustable bed returns to flat when the electricity goes out and it was flat when I woke up. Oh joy!

generator
My wife is on an oxygen concentrator 24/7 and power outages can kill her. I own a battery operated unit but it only provides 5-6 hours of O2 so I searched out a 1000 watt generator. Home Depot wanted 16000 mxp and the wait time for delivery was estimated at one month....I went to Tool Time in Ajijic and they had a 1000 watt unit for 4100 mxp and delivered it in 2 days.
Now we don't have to flee our area until we found working power for our portable. 1000 watts is enough to support the concentrator and or keep the batteries charged on the portable unit.

Total power loss for our casa, east of LCS. My Li-ion battery backup has been keeping the essentials on.

This is now the longest outage we have experienced, in Ajijic, in 10 years. Must be one big problem.

Massive incompetence??
The need for CFE linemen to get a full night's sleep (and breakfast) before addressing the problem??

I guess with the heat more and more folks are using mini-splits and fans so CFE is taxed more than their capacity. The system sure needs to be upgraded as more is being built everywhere.

The summer of 2018 was awful when they were upgrading the CFE lines in Riberas. Lots of twelve hour days with no electricity but at least we knew in advance when it was happening. Mike Riley was really good about posting the notices from CFE online in the forums. Since it's been upgraded, there has only been 1 entire day without electricity. And the two hour outage about a week ago. I'm not complaining.

Re: Power Outage Ajijic
CFE's 'performance'.... or lack therof.... is getting very reminiscent of the late 1990s when I first starting coming down. Back then no one had air conditioning nor probably portable oxygen concentrators BUT one better had had their frig on a voltage regulator or the brownouts would destroy your compressor. All of our desktop and laptop computers were 'behind' a small battery backup unit... UPS... so as to continue to 'computer' with your fast dial-up Internet service from Ron Collins.
The more things change the more they stay the same, no?

Re: Power Outage Ajijic
The storm is starting to die down in Riberas. The electricity was out for about 15 minutes. And the wind ripped an awning in half that was covering the glass in my back atrium. Guess it's time to put the proper stuff on the glass. Sigh.
I'm loving the cool, cool temperature though.

I just watched the wind blow a ceramic planter across a coffee table on the terraza and smashed it on the floor. Quite a wind.

Re: Power Outage Ajijic
We went through this before with CFE on our street in 2017.
A specific transformer kept blowing and it was obviously due to the overhang of tree limbs against the transformer and adjacent power lines. It went on for 3 months (dry season) with almost weekly outages; we got to know the CFE lineman as they'd send the same guys to climb the same pole to the same transformer.
Finally we heard that CFE told 2 property owners to trim their trees or CFE would trim/remove them. A CFE crew cleared one area and one landowner trimmed their area, Problem solved.
In all homes we lived in US, power companies would come out annually, assess problem limbs and send crews to trim or remove. In FL and AZ they did this prior to hurricane or monsoon season; in rural VA they did it prior to winter snows.
CFE could certainly do similar preventive maintenance annually.

On the plus side, we had .29 inch. The local weather station reports 0.22.

My turtle pond says almost 1". Probably rained more in centro than where the rain gauge is.

Preventive maintenance? Hahahaha. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that such a thing is an alien concept in Mexico. They look at coming back to fix something year after year as job security.
Like they'll use the cheapest paint, or water down the good stuff, so it has to be repainted every year, even though that approach makes it more expensive in the long run.

The rain was a plus in SJC but the brown out for over 10 hours wasn't

The Racquet Club was still out this morning. A friend there couldn't make it to breakfast this morning because she couldn't get her car out. Apparently piston type doors do not have a manual release.
