The man we use comes to the house, usually takes the car to his place, leaves his cycle at our place, and brings the car back fixed.  Reasonable prices. He's the son of Al Rivas, who was the best in town but went to the U.S. a few years ago.
He has kept our 2010 Honda in perfect running condition for years.

Name and phone number for Allen Rivas Jr.:  331 176 9733

Escalera will also do house calls for a dead battery. They arrive with the charging unit to boost it which is usually enough to get you going... or at least enough to get you to wherever you want to take it to be replaced or fixed. I was hoping that I had just left a door ajar so thought a good highway run to charge the battery would do the trick. Nope, happened again the next day and they came to boost me again and I then waited in the shop while they replaced the battery. No problems since.
p.s. can't a faulty alternator also cause problems with the battery charging???

Yes- it should be tested with a multimeter, which any decent mechanic should do before springing for a new battery.

Usually, if the battery is 3+ years old, I would replace the battery. 3 to 4 years is the practical life of a car battery, depending of course on how much driving you do.

The alternator can possibly be the culprit and should be tested when you get the new battery installed.

Also, a battery that has been totally discharged will seldom hold a recharge very long. It is better to replace the battery.

Yes car is 5 y/o CR-V, battery life estimated at 3 to 5 years. This is our 4th CR-V since 1992 and have been thru this before with other ones.

Pretty much any car with a 5 YO battery is going to have a battery 'problem'. Smart to just replace. And, yes, alternators are easily checked as part of that service.

Easy way to check the alternator is to pull off one of the battery leads after it has been jump started. If the vehicle continues to run the alternator should be fine, if the vehicle stalls the alternator is shot.
