Yes, works great on iPhone & always faster than Telmex (when it was functioning). More than a few days of Hotspotting will deplete your Amigo plan data allotment tho, thus moving the date your $200p/mo plan payment is due. You can't buy 'extra data'  - I tried. But small price to pay @ $.33 usd/ day. Since Totalplay, I haven't had to Hotspot!! (You can buy home Telcel wifi, but they want a 2 year commitment.)

Yes, I have an ancient Samsung S4 and the hotspot was a lifesaver before iLox and TotalPlay came along.
TotalPlay is PHENOMENAL! I have now cancelled both Telmex and iLox... neither of which have any understanding of customer service.
You can google "how to" use your cell phone as a hotspot. You can even google how to use a particular model of cell phone as a hotspot.
Be warned that if you don't get good cell phone reception (all by itself) in your home, the hotspot will not work well for you. Usually, your cell phone piggy backs off your modem's wifi inside your home.
To use MY cellphone as a hotspot, required me to set up my laptop on the hood of my car in my courtyard where I got the best cell tower reception. Ya do what ya gotta do.
My neighbour installed an antenna to magnify his cell tower reception. I almost did that when my only choice was Telmex and they were driving me 'round the bend.

I use the hotspot on my Android phone whenever my service is down. Works good.

Actually, you can buy extra data. If you go to MiTelcel on your phone, when you login you'll see "Paquetes" on the bottom of the screen. From there you can buy "Internet por Tiempo". 2 hours unlimited for 15 pesos.

This is incorrect. You can buy as much extra data as you want by going to any OXo or anywhere else that sells Telcel paquetes, and pay for Telcel Internet. Pay as you go, so no 2 year committment, and there is no reason you can't use it for home Wifi. You just connect your phone hotspot to your computer. There's no need to buy one of their modems.
