What’s the new Covid drug’s name and is it available here? I have COPD so I’m super paranoid about getting Covid.

Others are available but not necessarily for home use. This is for U.S. I'll leave it to somebody with better Spanish skills to find out what may be available in Mexico.

Re: More on the virus
Just found a good Atlantic article re Omicron spread, testing & what is different about it which is accelerating transmission..
'Your Negative COVID Test Is Basically Meaningless'. www.theatlantic.com (sorry, I'm lame, can't get direct article link) addresses how Omicron sleuths, seeming to give neg test results during a faster 3-day incubation. So peeps believing neg test vs initial symptoms & then end up spreaders, while trying to be responsible. Some pretty educated virologists & immunologists are stumped right now.
Also, National Geographic's weekly newsletter always provides the latest U.S. map of Covid cases/deaths by county, easy peasy. This week's issue added this:
"Although the federal government has been able to purchase these vaccines for the youngest kids, it won’t be able to buy the updated jabs that could provide better protection against Omicron when they become available for adults this fall. Ongoing negotiations for a $10 billion COVID-19 response funding, which have been stalled in Congress for months, continue to lose momentum. This is happening as two relatively new and more transmissible versions of Omicron, BA.4 and BA.5, spread across the country, now accounting for about 21 percent of the genetically sequenced samples collected between June 4 and June 11."
So after 'Independence Day' (so ironic) B4/B5 will rip.. So seems Fall updated vaccines will have to be purchased. Maybe same distribution channels - CVS, Walgreens, HEB, indie pharmacies..? Hope those TIJ flights stay low. for July, one way Volaris $54.. boo hoo - would be so great to have a long Calif w/e but it will be Omi-geddon by then. so not normal..

Here is your link to the article... https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2022/06/is-my-negative-covid-test-accurate/661242/
BTW, everyone who attended the Christmas dinner last year ALL tested NEGATIVE for Covid the day before and the day of... all were vaccinated and boosted... and ALL of them got Covid. I wouldn't trust the home tests under any circumstances.

Re: More on the virus
I wonder if a lot of the home test false results are due to user error. I'm sure the PCR tests and even antigen are more accurate in general, but I bet a lot of people home testing just aren't doing it right.
I was just talking to a good friend in Canada last night- she is on her 2nd week of Covid and still feeling pretty lousy. She's a nurse, although she doesn't work directly with patients anymore- she's an administrator of the home care program.
She said she started to feel sick one evening, then woke up at 3am, feeling even sicker, so she did one of the home tests she had. Read positive.
Being a nurse, she would know how to do a good swab on herself. I suspect a lot of folks doing them at home just don't do a proper swab.

It’s uncomfortable to as deep as you should to get a proper result so you could be right

I’m down here in Michoacán and I’d say maybe 10% are wearing a mask and all are those cheap, flimsy kind. Half don’t even wear them properly. But I’m not hearing of any spike in cases. All say that the time to worry is when the “emigrados” come down.

Noticed sign at Farmacia Guadalajara that they sell Covid at-home tests. My guess is that vax/boosted people with mild symptoms who take this test, ride it out and their positive case never gets reported.

Those home tests aren’t known for accuracy, either. I was at Quality Care yesterday and shocked at the number of people in the waiting room not wearing masks even though there was a sign saying to.

As I mentioned before, I suspect the lack of accuracy has more to do with people doing self-adminstered tests not sticking that swab anywhere near as far up their nose as a health professional does when they test.

Entirely possible but resulting in dangerous assumptions leading to more spread of Covid if they think they don’t have it when they really do.

Still no stats for the 29th. The only consistent thing about their reporting is the inconsistency.
