December 18, 2020
From Associated Press
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The former governor of Mexico’s troubled western state of Jalisco is dead after an assailant shot him to death at a restaurant in the Pacific coast resort of Puerto Vallarta. State prosecutor Gerardo Octavio Solis said Friday that Aristóteles Sandoval was killed in an attack that targeted only him around 1:40 a.m.. Jalisco state is home to the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel, and the attack bore the hallmarks of a gang killing. The attacker waited until Sandoval got up from a table he was sharing with four other people. Sandoval was a member of the old ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party who governed the state from 2013 to 2018.

There's probably more to this than meets the eye, as usual. The story said he was on vacation with his family, yet said he was alone and joined at the restaurant by a unidentified (in the article) man, then by another man, then by a man and a woman. If a guy is on vacation with his family, you'd think he'd be hanging out with his family, not out for lunch with who knows who. Of course, perhaps they were family members or friends, but since the article said he was simply on vacation with his family, you'd think they'd say if he was out to lunch with them.
And while this does have the marks of a cartel killing, and no one deserves to be shot in the back while he's having a leak, seeing as how he's no longer governor, nor holds a political position, why the cartel would have an interest in killing him now is something we'll likely never be privy to.

A 1:40 AM lunch ??? You were wondering why people would be up at that hour in another thread
You are probably right about solving the murder, they still haven´t got to the reason for the Colossio assasination....or JFK.

Here in the US they reported that he had 15 bodyguards with him. There were supposed to be 2 bodyguards standing outside the restroom. Something doesn’t sound right.

I've seen a video. Recorded from the highway beside the bar. It was the middle of the night. Lots of automatic weapons fire.
Lots of potential reasons for the attack. He refused to kowtow to the cartels when he was in office. Your reputation never leaves you here. (Canadians have long memories, but rarely act later. Mexicans have long memories and often act later.)

Oh, I misread that as 1:40 pm. Well, that's even stranger- on vacation with your family but out at 1:40 am without the family?
Another weird thing is that according to the report I read on Mexico News Daily, the scene of the crime had already been cleaned up by the time the cops arrived, compromising the gathering of forensic info. You have to be awfully damn ignorant not to know that you don't mess with the scene of a homicide until the police give the green light. So was the restaurant manager or a employee in on it, were they threatened into cleaning it up by the perpetrators, or?

Whatever theory you can come up with is probably pretty close. This kind of thing is typical and rampant in many states here, as I'm sure you've noticed.
