Ugh! Driver’s license renewal

What a day! If you need to renew, pay ahead of time in Chapala. It will save having to stand in one of 3 very long lines. Two people with me didn’t do that. Went to Plaza Las Torres which was a hot place to stand or sit (if lucky) for close to 5 hours. No going to the head of any line if you’re old. They really need a better system.

Or wait until July and do it here......

Yes! Wait until July and do it in Chapala when they open the office here.

Don’t wait if it’s expired. One of our party got stopped with an expired license and was hit up for mordida. Luckily mine didn’t expire until May 29 but I wouldn’t want a big fine.

Does your car insurance cover an accident if your license is expired?

Would depend on if you have a valid DL from NOB.

I called my insurance agent and if your DL is expired, the insurance will not pay and your car will be towed if you are stopped.

For a simple renewal go to the office in Tlaquepaque. Take directo bus, get off at alamo stop north of highway. cab to office. if you get there when the open at 8:30 to 9am there is no line and you can be done in 30 minutes.

They are opening an office again in Chapala, scheduled for July, 2019
