Mexican Driver's License

I was just told that I need a Mexican driver's license to drive a Jalisco plated car and that it is illegal to use my British Columbia one and that I'm just lucky that I haven't been pulled over yet. What say you out there?

Oh Spencer: I'm sooooooo happy to hear you say that!! I ran into a friend who recently got her Mexican driver's license because she drives a Mexican plated car and that's what she was told....so this is 3rd hand information.

The plates on the car do not make or break or invalidate the person's license. A Jalisco license is probably a good idea.

Article 55 of the State Traffic Law says recognition of foreign licenses is up to the Federal Government and international treaties.

I just got a Jalisco drivers licence because numerous insurance companies told me that they would not sell me liability insurance to drive my Jalisco plated vehicle in the US unless I had a Jalisco drivers licence.

That may be a policy specific to certain insurance companies.
