Pancho's Plan
Just talked to a friend who had coffee with Pancho this morning. The now-empty space on the east side of Pancho's new store is going to be for all the Costco stuff that he stocks - dog food, tp, all the bulk stuff he brings in which will free up the shelves in the other part for his regular groceries and specialty items.
Good idea!

Re: Pancho's Plan
Love the concept and love the direction it's going in.
My only complaint so far is that the aisles are too narrow. Two little carts can't pass each other so you end up going around the store like a slow train.

Could be classified as brilliant marketing or otherwise. I consider it an annoyance.

I think without the constrictions put in place by his uncle Pancho will really shine. Most likely this is just the beginning of more good things to come.

I agree, I was thinking that yesterday. I like the staff he's chosen too, bilingual, young, bright, energetic and helpful has been my experience with them.

Re: Pancho's Plan
This sounds good, except for the aisles where passing carts can't get by one another. That's a big negative which should be fixed. No excuse.

Re: Pancho's Plan
I’m betting that the narrow aisles are a vailed attempt by Pancho to ensure that his patrons will get more exercise.... backing up, twisting in place, rushing to get to a certain aisle before the next person. Brilliant!

His new store is a great addition to the area. It sounds like it will be even better shortly.

I think he did the best he could with the limited space in that section of the building. I don't think that anyone should be in a big hurry and get frustrated when they have to wait to go down an aisle. Wasn't that the idea for most of us when we chose to move down here? Living a more relaxed, laid-back life?

You must be totally physically fit with no aches and pains or parts that don't work the way they used to, suegarn. Patience and pain do not co-exist.

Well, yeah, it's more abrasive than an old used one.
Pancho's store is a BEAUTIFUL NEW WELL KEPT addition to Riberas. I'm DELIGHTED and KNOW that he will work out the kinks. Speaking of kinks... #$%#!

Re: Pancho's Plan
Good retort, Ferret.
I entirely agree about the no-pass aisles. There's as bad as some of the "alleged" two way streets around here. Doesn't need to be that way, and I hope Pancho sees the light on that.

Re: Pancho's Plan
I've never thought about it but has there been room for 2 carts to pass each other in SL all these years?
I find it more convenient in both stores to park the cart out of the way and do the aisles without it. Just sayin'.

Re: Pancho's Plan
Yes, the carts in SuperLake can pass side by side in most aisles... not in all. Pancho will figure it out. He's done an amazing job with the space he has.

Re: Pancho's Plan
I always thought that the narrow aisles were design to inhibit gringos from gathering for gossip and sharing information of consequence.

LOL! The narrow aisles don't stop them or anyone else from gathering for gossip.

Re: Pancho's Plan
One of these days I’m going to bring an air horn and blast the gabbers who need to catch up on the last year’s gossip in the middle of the aisle. I especially love the ones who look offended when you say “excuse me” to get by them. They look at you like “How dare you!”

Re: Pancho's Plan
I was at Pancho's store yesterday, and I was able to get my cart past another one in the aisle. It's snug, but definitely doable!

Re: Pancho's Plan
Went by Superlake the last two Saturdays and the parking area was full at 10AM. The first Saturday, when I arrived at Pancho's there were two cars, today only one.
I don't know if that bodes well for Pancho or just for the shopper.
He needs to reach the Tapatios who spend a lot of money at SL buying for big parties, fiestas, and comidas for big big families, friends, and employees when they want something special. The older retirees are not driven by this aspect. Also, having a licoreria, carniceria, and pescaderia, all along side SL is something that Pancho can't offer....one stop shopping.
He has some hurdles to jump.
But he is closer to Clinica Maskaras for those "aches and pains"(crowd), when they becomes intolerable........

True, but give him time! He just opened and still isn’t fully stocked yet.
