Emission Police Check

Suck it up! Yearly emissions check is a law, stupid or not... There are a lot of laws NOB that make this one look like child's play...

Revelation. Maybe they are out there actually trying to enforce traffic laws, check paperwork, registration, emission sticker, drinking and driving, etc. Maybe it isn't just a dragnet for shakedowns as many suggest. I've noticed there are occasionally bursts of enforcement of existing traffc laws around here. Particularly during vacation season (like NOW for lots of Mexicans).

Everybody complains that laws are just suggestions and then complain when they are enforced. I am happy these laws are being enforced, air quality will improve when emissions are less. As far as the rest, it is also good when all traffic laws are being taken seriously.

I agree with the last two posts.  Too many people around here complain when the glass is half empty instead of being happy when it is half full.
Mexico isn't and never will be America, the so called leader of what is best for everyone, and we have to set our sights lower.  Too bad we are so close to generate this constant comparison, but "it is what it is".
Not as difficult or frustrating for Mexicans.


Cops getting mordidas are in same category with piñatas and parajetes in the world of Mexican culture items.

It's not that big a deal to get the emission sticker. I had enough years of Sister Mary
Elephant ruler-swinging Nazis that I'd rather get the damned sticker than worry if I get stopped. Maybe that's why I haven't been stopped in over 8 years. Those Catholic schools sure know how to make people law-abiding, damnit.

Ditto.  I call them Sister Mary Rulermaster.  Some of them are deranged. However, my emission stickers are current and I never run red lights.

Yes, registration permit.

They were stopping vehicles today at Santa Cruz (Chapala/Mezcala highway) checking for emission stickers.
They were extremely polite and once they saw the current sticker on the windshield you were waved ahead.
There is an article in this weeks Guadalajara Reporter discussing this.

This past week at the stake out in El Chante they had an all terain vehicle up on a truck ready to tow away. Looks like they are looking for any infraction.

I have a 1979 Mercedes 300SD Diesel classic car and the last inspection was in Jocotepic, last year. That station is no longer doing diesel inspections. It does do gasoline however. The only place for diesel inspections is now in the Guadalajara, and when I called the stations that did my inspection a few years ago which is still in business, does however not have the holograms at the present time. Told me last week, now this week????? Any suggestions?? Thank You

Cypress, the one in Joco is only for Gasoline power cars. I have a diesel. As per my last phone call to the station in Guad, it may be this week that they have the holograms. MAYBE?????

It was this sort of run-around that made me decide to forgo testing any of my vehicles. So far, so good......

Run around? I went to the place last year when there was road construction, drove in and was out with sticker in about 15 minutes. No problems at all.

I went three times. Twice they we're closed (during posted hours) and once they had no stickers.

Don’t forget that the place in Chapala was off limits when they tore up the street for a long time.

I am in the same boat as Canuck [b]ob....I just don't seem to get around to getting it done. I have never had any problems or checks.

Captain Joseph. I have a 1978 Diesel just like yours. I would not risk driving it to Guad. Too old and too slow for Guad traffic. What if you do not pass....what then.

Parts for these cars are difficult if not impossible to get they are so old. Mine is laid up in the garage because we cannot find a brake pump.

They are great solid cars but time takes its toll

How long after purchase of new car does one have to get first emission sticker?

According to the article in GR, it's just a fix-it ticket with a waived fine if you do it and show them the paperwork.
I'm not sweating it. BUT I am making sure all my car paperwork is in order! Lots of visible tránsitos lately.
