What time does the emission check center open please?

The one in Chapala usually opens around 10:00 A.M. (Mexican time)

Seeing Emission Control under Local Restaurants, so I had to look; wondered what a new restaurant might offer for 'emission control' or what would be on offer to require 'emission control'.

Are they talking about Farts or smoking? Only kidding.

I have been to the Chapala emissions testing site 3 times now when they were open but the only guy that does the test was not there. Supposedly he was supposed to be there in 1/2 hr. I came back one hour later and he wasn't there. I was told come back in another 1/2 hour. I declined on several occasions.

I went in on Friday and a young man did the test. The owner was busy fixing an engine... I believe they now have multiple operators...

I go there every year, and often I am told that the person making the test will be back in a certain amount of time. And usually in slightly less than twice that time, he comes back.

I always assume he will be late and therefore I always bring some reading to take up my time and am happily surprised when I do not have to wait.

I take reading material with me EVERYWHERE in Mexico. It has saved me many wasted hours.

What is their location? Are they closed on Mondays?

Go to the stoplight in Chapala. Go straight ahead on Morales. Turn left on Zaragoza and it is down about three blocks on the right. A big gate with emission sign...

You have to wonder if it is worth it to get the emissions test. I always have but...

I have never been stopped since I first got my first car here in 1997. And I didn't bother getting one until I purchased my then new Honda CRV in 2013 from S & S Autos. It had a sticker, so just for the heck of it I drive to Chapala each year and as I posted above with plenty of reading material, and get the sticker.

You know you are going to pass, because if you don't you don't have to pay. So I bet they find a way to get you to pass so that they get paid.

DH was stopped last year (we have Jalisco plates) and argued/discussed with the transito that our vehicle was outside of the required months for a valid emission sticker.  Our June number, which does not need replacement until July, was a sticking point until he (the transito) had to give in. We are going in tomorrow to the station in Jocotepec.  I agree with CB...there are WAY more significant issues for drivers than "emission testing", however, we do what we need to do to drive through Ajijic on a regular basis.

Transitos were stationed on the east side of the slashed Glorieta, (I don't know what that space is called...there used to be a glorieta/round-about... now there is two weird traffic lights).

Has to be the Carretera through La Floresta in Ajijic.

So, transitos are legal to stop people again in Chapala municipio?

Yes, La Floresta on the carretera where that large painted sculpture stands and there are two closely spaced traffic lights. He was stopped just east of there in June a year ago.
