Lake level 2018
I see the lake is substantially higher than it was at this time last year. The rate of decline is already tapering off. If we get a good rainy season we could hit the highs of 2010.

Re: Lake level 2018
It is not so much the local rainy season that decides the lake level but the some 500 reported dams on the Lerma river and the rainfall on the Lerma river watershed. The last 2 years have seen a Multi State committee overseeing the dams and new Federal incentives to farmers to change their "irrigation by flooding" methods. That is mostly why the lake level has risen in the past 2 years.

Re: Lake level 2018
True, but one cannot ignore the fact that a robust rainy season impacts the Lerma River and the amount of water that makes it to the Lake. That was part of the reason for the levels last year.

Re: Lake level 2018
Exactly. If they don't get rain up river there is nothing to release.

Last year they had the first opening in July so you may be correct.

Re: Lake level 2018
Does anyone have an idea of what percentage the Lerma river has in filling the lake in comparison with local rainfall? Is it about 50% each?
I seem to remember someone commented on that somewhere quite a few years  ago.

Re: Lake level 2018
I think 90% or more comes from the Lerma. The rain alone just accounts for evaporation and usage. When they open the dams you see noticeable differences within a day or two.

It is incredible that a city the size of GUAD does not have a reservoir. That's the problem. How far can stupid politics go? Maybe Obrador can fix that.....maybe.

Yeah but they need to relocate all the crocodiles and manatees first, then they need permission from the aliens......

I think they may have opened the dam gates. I walk the seawall at La Reserva most mornings. Yesterday there was about 10 feet of shore showing; today, about a foot. That would only be a small rise, but noticeable nonetheless as it happened over 24 hours.

Sure sounds like it. I walk the Ajijic malecon every morning and agree that it looked higher this morning.

Re: Lake level 2018
And at the beginning of the fast increase, I thought it was an error. It has been a week now, which confirms that I was wrong. So far this looks great. :)

Re: Lake level 2018
According to that chart we're about a month ahead of where we were last year in terms of lake level.
From my perch on the hill above San Antonio I can see a definite rise in the Lake level.

Re: Lake level 2018
Just looking at the shoreline this morning I see a significant rise from the rain overnight and this morning. Quite dramatic.

Re: Lake level 2018
It is now definitely the most increase over a one week period that I have ever seen. It has risen about 35cm or 3% volume.
