Re: directions please
Its called Hospital General Regional IMSS 180. Its North of Tlajamulco and its not easy to get to if you do not know your way.
The area is called Los Encinos and its off a road called San Sebastian el Grand. Please use google map to visual the location.
I took a Mexican there last year who fell off a ladder and we had a hard time finding the place.
It is an amazing hospital, huge, super clean and efficient. Good luck

Re: directions please
Well I was just comparing it to the old "general" hospital in St Catharines.

St Catharines, Ontario? Lived there 89 - 95. You are quite right about the hospital.

Went through the maze with Barb (RIP) and as a long time medical professional it had to be the worst run facility that I have ever seen. Back then it was a joke. Hopefully it has gotten better with age as it was pretty new back then.

Re: directions please
I take the chapala gdl highway, exit lazoro cardemas, exit 8 de julio then make uturn heading south....all the way to the hospital. it takes about 1.5 hours depending on traffic. I believe there is a OXXO at the corner where you turn left to get to hospital.
Re: directions please
I can barely pronounce the name let alone find my way there. I have spent a fair amount of time there. My Mexican friends always took me. It was like a Marine corps combat frot lime hospital inside, but I fond the doctors were very good and I feel I had excellent treatment.
You know, if you are really sick or accommodations aren't that important. I would hate to guess what the cost would have been for treatment in a US hospital. The problem is that costs in local hospitals are climbing ass they find at they can submit normal US insurance fees and unfortunately get paid those high fees.
I just wish we had an IMSS hospital much closer. Say what you like about SP, but when it comes to surgery or heavier procedures, they aren't there and you are stuck without IMSS, not they offer total surgical services. - Having both is not a bad idea.

Re: directions please
You cannot have both and SP will make very certain of that before they will let you enroll.
As to your comment regarding surgeries at SP, I find that to also to be untrue. Perhaps Chillin would be willing to relate his recent experiences for you. Again.
One of the reasons I ditched IMSS for SP is the location of the designated IMSS hospital that we are mandated to use and the experiences of my friends that have had to use it. Those that have survived, that is.

When I donated some blood at the IMSS hospital in el centro Guadalajara, I noticed many ambulances (like 12 or more) parked at the lowest level of the hospital at the loading dock. I commented to my friend that the hospital was well prepared for emergencies. His reply was that the morque was on the lowest level and those ambulances were probably parked there to deliver the bodies to the funeral homes.
After thinking about that comment, I went with SP + GNP private insurance

Hahaha Good move. Bad sign when the morgue is busier than the ER!
