Anyone have a phone number for an Uber driver?

There are no phone numbers for Uber Registered drivers; contact is though an app only. Some personal drivers claim to be from Uber, but are not. Many of the non-allied drivers are excellent. Uber is usually a little less expensive.

Yes, UBER is contacted via an app only. Because of the power outage, I used them twice yesterday. Both drivers were very nice with late model cars. $35 pesos to SAT from Ajijic (near the LCS). Hard to beat those prices

However, is you use an Uber driver, they may very well provide you with a card so you can call them directly. Juts sayin'.

And then would you be paying cash or would it go on your credit card?

Cash. He would be doing this off the books so he doesn't have to give Uber their cut. He would probably charge more too.

BTW......you don't have to use a credit card for UBER. You can get the app and set it for cash. That is how I use them. The only downside is after a certain hour at night most of the drivers only accept those that have attached their credit card or gift card to their account. I suppose this is for security reasons.

Yes, I know, I use the UBER app with my c/c. I was just trying to point out that these guys probably aren't really UBER drivers. I did use one of them once though for a trip into Guad and back. He charged the same, I had to pay in cash (was having trouble with the app), he monitored the UBER app the whole time, better car, AC, really knew his way around Guad, and he wasn't a "taxi chimp" (Spencer's term, love it!)  

Either way, the cost of transportation in the area has gone down to a more reasonable rate. That's a good thing.

Its so cheap I usually leave a huge tip. They could double their rates and it would still be reasonable.

I like the gift card idea. It would be better to have $100 US sitting on account than leaving a CC on file. Some gift cars have a procedure for adding to them electronically.

You can only phone Uber from a rotary phone in a British phonebooth.

I have never used UBER but wondering how I would recognize my UBER driver picking me up at a public place such as the OXXO at the airport or a busy street corner in Guadalajara ?

You are provided with the make/model of the car, the license number and the drivers name.

At the airport I also called him and mentioned I was wearing a red shirt. Also, they can't stop at the OXXO anymore. That whole side of the road has posts all along the way. You have to look or each other.

Can't they pull in to the paid lot at the airport and still pick you up somewhere around OXXO? Don't you get 15 minutes free in that lot?

I suppose, but I know they don't like to get out of their cars.

Why would they have to get out of their car? I had an Uber driver at a crowded airport telephone me to see who answered their phone - then he knew who he was picking up - opened his door - waved at me and all was good.

That's a god plan. And I d on't thnk they have t get out of their cars. (Parking wasn't my idea.)

They like to pick you up at the domestic arrival end of the airport on the center island where it's less crowded. You can follow the car approaching on the real time map on the app and then wave your phone at him as he drives up. I used Uber for the first time on a trip to Mexico City last week and it was fabulous...an hour drive out to Xochimilco for $211 which ended up being the same charge for the trip to Chapala from the airport here, so basically half price. All nice newer model cars and several drivers were older businessmen with time on their hands...gave us a nice history lesson along the way in CDMX.

Does anyone know the average rate for an Uber to Tlaquepaque from West Ajijic?  I haven't downloaded the app yet, but it sounds like something that would be worthwhile.

Go to the Uber.com website. There is a section to use in order to estimate fare.

From SAT to Tlaquepaque is 254.63.

I paid 210 from Ajijic village.

The OP didn't specify an address or location in Tlaquepaque so I just plugged in the town. It's very possible that the price will go up or down with a specific destination.

We used UBER all around Guadalajara last night. There was 7 of us so we used the"SUV" option. Never waited longer than 5 minutes or so and everyone was a late model Ford Explorer with professional drivers. I was kind of feeling sorry for the taxi guys cause when we left a restaurant or night club it was UBER after UBER pulling up to pick people up.
