UBER
Any UBER users out there? Guadalajara? Lakeside? I'm told by an UBER driver there are drivers listed in Ajijc.

Yeah! I was just talking on FB with a UBER driver from New Jersey who was just visiting Ajijic and said she checked the app when she was here and saw there were drivers in Ajijic. She said the drivers won't 'hover' around unless there is a market but will - if UBER is being used.
They also said we can use them from GDL to the lake and 2 people said they paid 200p for that trip.
I'd love to use them. Called a taxista Thurs night for Fri morning and he said good. Next morning when he was 10 mins late I called him again. He said he was at the OXXO and would be here in 3 mins. He never showed up. I want UBER.

Re: UBER
That war between regular taxis and Uber has been going on for a while. It's hard to imagine Uber working at the lake.
That's a great price though for getting from Guadalajara to the Lake.

Re: UBER
Go on the UBER app and request one, I guess. Or maybe they have a location map or something.

Re: UBER
Uber is not welcomed in mexico, france , broward county etc.
There have been plenty of reports of uber drivers being attacked and their vehicles damaged.
You dont want to be a passenger if that uber guy encounters a taxi mob

Re: UBER
With Mexico City being a hot spot for "taxi type" kidnappings that is surprising........go figure.
Re: UBER
Lakeside desperately needs UBER. The taxi guys are laxy and wont work late and for tourism there needs to be a reliable way to get people between GDL and Chapala after 8pm and only having 3 local guys to call wont cut it especially as nobody wants to come to Chapala, know nobody and be stranded.

Re: UBER
Yep, perfect. As I said, after multiple calls and promises I waited for my lazy taxista to pick me up a week ago - and he never did.
Doubt that could happen with UBER, you have pictures of the car and driver on your phone, their exact location, and constant communication with that designated driver.
I need to ID that taxista, btw, he is a WM taxista by the name of Gabriel.

Re: UBER
I gave up on the local taxis guys, very lazy. Only between 2 and 4 really work after hours and this is info that we as residents know. Would be a great business but this is the mentality that kills tourism, one where nobody wants to work. UBER would be great, reduce DUIs and allow for more tourism as well as for people to have a secure way to get to GDL and back for medical testing.

Re: UBER
It is the way to go in most cities, here it may take a little time but I think this is what we will end up with. Cheaper and more practical.
Last time I was in Paris tht is all we used, UBER and the electrical cars you can pick up and leave all over the city. Again cheaper than cab and if you are lucky to live near one of the places you can leave the car you really do not need a car.

Re: UBER
Yea have to agree about local Taxi with a few exceptions. Tried living without a car for a few years and gave up and bought a city car. We tried without it just didn't work for us. Ended up begging for a ride to Ajijic at night. Worked most of the time but don't understand why younger local taxi drivers don't drive at least til 10pm. Is ripping off taxi drivers at night a problem here?? You wouldn't think a bus could run in high season til 11pm on weekends right?
Does anybody know a taxi driver or bus driver well enough to get a straight answer???

Yes. I know one of each and will try to get a reasonable answer as to why they won't run at night and what they expect people to do if they need a ride home at midnight.

Any chance that info on these one or two drivers that work late nights can be shared, need to get out once in awhile ~ tried bar-hopping in Chapala on a Friday night once, it was kinda dismal :)
