hahaha good question. I think all they did was add the sign "Hospital" on the building.

I know of someone who had a knee replacement done at Ajijic Clinic and "Hospital". They have regular inpatient type rooms with a nursing station. I hope they have replaced their xray machine.

For further details on the hospital there will be an article in the upcoming  Guadalajara Reporter. Earlier this week one of the administrators, investors and the architect along with myself were interviewed. I suspect many of the community's questions will be answered and doubts will be laid to rest.

Of course, there will always be the naysayers and those who will voice critiques that will fall short of being constructive as it is with any endeavor that is ever undertaken, as was the case of going to the moon.

"THE" NEW HOSPITAL - RBC (Ribera Medical Center) - Page 2 Quote-10

As with any hospital, it will be a place where some lives will begin, some will be saved and some will end. The physicians whom will form the RMC team of doctors will do the following:

"We will pledge to preserve our humility, integrity, and all the values which brought us to the practice of medicine. We will engage in honest self-reflection, striving for excellence but acknowledging our limitations, and caring for ourselves as we care for others. We will seek to heal the whole person, rather than merely treat disease, committing to a partnership with our patients that empowers them and demonstrates empathy and respect. We will cure sometimes, treat often, and comfort always.”

Agree on the Xray machine.

On the plus side: If you happen to live nearby and it's evening and you've had the kind of household disaster which requires a tourniquet and stitches......it's good that it's there. There isn't much of a time frame to go elsewhere in such cases. The physician on duty did a fine job on my bleeding spouse.

I don't think this would be my place of choice for a heavy duty surgery and stay in the facility, though.

Ajijic Clinic has 24/7 service and I would suggest the "best" rooms in town
For initial first aid Cruz Rojas or this clinic would be my suggestion

There exist certifications for medical establishments.  ISO certification for clinical labs.  I have no idea if there are equivalent standards to the US hospital's JCAHO in Mexico.  I hope so, and hope that certification does not involve paying off the right inspector.  As a healthcare professional, I have been very disappointed with the level of care here.  Sure, you get more personal attention, but some of the proposed solutions to your healthcare problems seem unnecessarily aggressive and invasive (and expensive).  I have met plenty of people who have had the recommendation to have their gall bladder removed (myself included -despite having no symptoms).  It definitely is buyer beware here.

It is "buyer beware" in the U.S. as well, and their mistakes in diagnosis and treatment are much more expensive than they are in Mexico. I'm speaking from experience. We need to watch our own backs everywhere when it comes to dealing with our health.
BTW, neither I nor anyone I know has been among the "plenty of people" to whom gall bladder removal without symptoms has been suggested. If that was a local doctor, it would be a public service to name him or her.

I must be hanging with the wrong crowd too as I have never met anyone here who was diagnosed with a fake gall bladder problem.....nor have I ever heard about it before.

I thought angioplasty (with or without insertion of stents) and pacemakers were the unnecessary medical scam of choice. If you are steered to a cardiologist by your friendly GP and they “discover” a very serious problem requiring the need for immediate angioplasty and/or pacemaker you may be the lucky winner of the Bilk The Gringo Sweepstakes. You will be told you could die if you leave the hospital so opting for a second opinion is a difficult decision. And, besides you’re there with your GP who you like and trust. So, it would seem like the stent/pacemaker scam would be much more successful and lucrative than an unnecessary gall bladder removal.

Pacemakers....yeah
Just happened to a friend of mine. Went to Dr. Briseno for a second opinion, he said, he didn't agree with the first opinion, pacemaker was not needed.

My friend’s was the angioplasty. He was frightened into doing it on the spot. He later took the EKG that he had been shown in the hospital, the one that purportedly revealed the problem that could kill him, to Dr. Briseno for a second opinion. He did not tell the doctor he had had anything done, just asked what treatment he would recommend. The doctor looked at it and said he would not recommend anything be done. The EKG was normal for a man his age.

Always good to get a second opinion when something major is diagnosed unless of course the problem is obvious.

I got three before I had back surgery. One happened to be the top Ortho doc in Guad. Problem solved. Dr. Briseño recommended angioplasty and possible stents. Got a second opinion which confirmed the first. Problem fixed. Deal only with Docs with excellent reps locally and the specialists he/she recommends. The medical care is excellent.

There are well-established guidelines to follow by various medical boards. If a doctor recommends any invasive procedure, he/she should reveal where such recommendations come from (i.e. New York Heart Association, American Board of Internal Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians etc). and you can and should get a second opinion.

Yes, doctors often disagree amongst themselves but the most prominent and ethical will base their decisions on well established medical guidelines and medical articles from reputable medical journals like JAMA.

When guidelines are followed, it leaves very little room to doubt where or not a procedure is merited. Now, whether or not you follow your doctor's recommendation or go see the local CURANDERO is an entirely different discussion.

At the RMC, only surgical cases, interventions and procedures that have followed proper protocols and documented prior work-up will be allowed to be carried out. With COFEPRIS reviewing all the medical records of the hospital and will certainly question any procedure/surgery that has not followed proper protocols and guidelines by Mexican and/or U.S. guidelines.

The practiced medical scammers know which patients are vulnerable. They also know that even if a target should find out they were taken (and most will not) they will next find out the complexity and cost of seeking remedy. Consumers must protect themselves.

Yes. Consumers should protect themselves by asking where does the doctor get his/her recommendations and getting a second or even third opinion from another well-accredited physician.

Thanks for reinforcing what has been repeated on this thread for a number of times already.

We expect that the RMC will be an valuable asset to the community and decrease the amount of such scams being carried out in the area.

“Consumers should protect themselves by asking where does the doctor get his/her recommendations and getting a second or even third opinion from another well-accredited physician.”

Getting a second or even third opinion is difficult for a patient who went to the hospital with his GP for a routine test and then is told he needs an angioplasty immediately. He is told he could die if he leaves the hospital.
Some doctors are predators.

I think that for the cases that you may be referring to, clarification needs to be made: URGENT vs EMERGENCY.

So,  the point you are trying to make is noted.

NYHA and AHA, TRAILRUNNER, that info is readily available on Google or Wikipedia. Doctors (up to date cardiologists) would be refer to the NYHA for their recommendations.

AHA follows NYHA classification.

One of my instructors, a Stanford ER doc, coded at a lecture he was presenting back east somewhere. Just dropped dead at the podium in front of a couple hundred doctors. This man was a real jerk and an arrogant instructor. Half the auditorium leapt on stage and started working him, EMS was there instantly, he was a save and came home with a pacemaker. I saw him a couple of weeks after the episode and he was humble, kind to his patients, much easier to work with, and the staff had something to snicker about for months afterward. Karma.
