Re: Telmex Land Line
Why don't you contact some of the real estate agencies as they would know better of new people trying to find a number than most of the older residents that post on this board?

And, by "older" residents you do mean of course residents that have lived here longer, not a bunch of older than dirt residents, right?

I forgot the name of the substance that is older than dirt, but whatever it is, the residents who have lived here longer than it has existed and older in chronological age, know very little about telephone numbers.
I'm kind of speaking of myself.......
Seriously.....you are correct!

Re: Telmex Land Line
Maybe go to Telmex and ask if they have a waiting list of people they would share with you. You could contact a few and see if they are interested.

Excuse my ignorance. How do you buy a telmex phone line?
When I moved into my house, there was a line in and I don't recall if I got a new # or if I kept the old one.
I know a lot of ppl are dropping landlines in favor of their cell phone.
I'm wondering though if yu can get DSL without a phone number.

Re: Telmex Land Line
You are buying the number not the physical line. No, you can't get internet access through TelMex without a phone number.

Interesting. When I lived in San Miguel de Allende, I got internet without a phone from TelMex. So, it's possible. If they're not offering that option here it is most likely because they just don't want to.
I also noticed that the TelMex office in SMA is open on Saturdays whereas our local office here is closed. You'd think it would be uniform service throughout the country, but no.

It had nothing to do with Telecable.

Key word "when". So when was that? Actually it doesn't matter at all since this isn't SMdA...
There's a lack of abundant Telmex availability right now in our area. Depends on which house, what area, etc. Hence the original post of "Telmex line for sale". If there wasn't a shortage it wouldn't have been posted. Some people will walk into Telmex tomorrow and ask for new service and get it. Others will ask and get put on the "waiting list", (aka "maybe some day"...)

Re: Telmex Land Line
Update: I work in RE and was at Telmex today on other business. After done with that, I asked a question on behalf of another client who's buying a house in upper Ajijic.
My Question: "There is no Telmex service in the house currently. Can they get a new line?"
Telmex Answer Today: "Telephone yes, Internet no...we have a waiting list."
Not what I wanted to hear, but exactly what I needed to know. Still, it all works out in the end. There's always next week, and the one after that.
As an Ancient U.S. Immigrant told me years and years ago in Talpa de Allende, "Mexico is here to teach us patience."

Re: Telmex Land Line
haha Yes, very true!
Rosa, as this place grows more and more and as TelMex drags their feet and refuses to upgrade their equipment and internet infrastructure, I'm thinking the future looks pretty grim here in terms of internet availability and speed. Verdad?
Maybe you could ask them about that sometime when you are there doing business. . .

"There's always next week, and the one after that."
This is true. A friend recently rented a new apartment. Before moving in she went to TelMex to arrange for phone/internet. They said there was none available and a waiting list of 40 people. She left. A few days later she went back. This time they said okay fine and gave her an appointment for three days later. She got her service hooked up and moved in with phone and internet. Dealing with TelMex is like being part of a religious sect. We do not question the mystery of TelMex. We just live with it.

OK. I moved from one house to another. The new house had no phone line. I went to TelMex and asked them for internet only because I had a cell phone and no need for a land line. They said OK and came out and installed it. End of story.
My point is simply that local TelMex offices seem to make up their own rules and ways of operating.

It was four years ago, mas o menos. I understand the topic and situation, I am responding to CBob's response to someone else's response where the original topic was slightly sidelined.
It's not about SMA, it's about TelMex. My point being that local offices do whatever the hell they want. There is little consistency in the various offices in what they offer, how they operate and when they're open.
Also, years ago, here at lakeside, I moved into a house that had no phone line, went to TelMex to request one, the guy came out and told me there was a long wait list. I came up with the right "paperwork" and he installed it that day.
If my comments don't interest or pertain to you, just ignore them.

Re: Telmex Land Line
My point was that Telmex has no "internet only" package that I am aware of. You are paying for a phone whether you use it or not. If you know of one please post a source as I have never seen it.

Bob:
Try the website. They quote a price for internet only. About 50 pesos less that phone included.

Re: Telmex Land Line
Thanks Dave. I believe the service you are referring to is the ability to surf the internet at public TelMex wifi hotspots such as the airport through the TelMex servers. In essence you can use TelMex internet without a phone line as long as you can get a wifi connection at a Telmex Hotspot somewhere. You also get an e-mail address. You automatically get access to this service if you are a current TelMex internet customer. As an example when I am at various airports in Mexico I can log in with my phone number and password.
With this service, you get:
Connectivity
Connect free internet in thousands of public places in Mexico and United States with Mobile WiFi in Infinitum.
Meet + values Infinitum
Security
Protects your computer from viruses with Suite of Security Infinitum.
Meet + values Infinitum
Communication
Stay always connected with Infinitum Mail and enjoy the new benefits of your email.

So far, your posts in this thread have nothing to do with the current situation in our area, are misleading to others who read them, and do interest and pertain to me, since I have to deal with clients who've swallowed inaccurate information off the internet. Every. Single. Day.
So I'll continue to comment if you don't mind.
