I understood 'sammich' for what it was.... a colloquialism and just making fun.

When I was growing up on the east coast, a normal variation of the word "sandwich" was "sankwich" even among adults. Perhaps it was because I lived in a community of immigrants from many different countries (including my grandparents and other relatives) that I accepted the oddities and richness of language. When I moved to the west coast I found people who had grown up eating sammiches. "You want we should go get a sammich (or sankwich)" was what we call "an inside joke," which is what it was here. Lighten up.

I actually picked that "sammich" up from our very own Bubba, and yes, it was also a West Coast lazy speak.
Anyone who takes that kind of thing seriously really needs to get more sleep.

Or, if you're British, the slang is 'sarny'......as in "I'll have a bacon sarny!"

I was "lightened up" when I posted, and smiling all the time.
I hope you don't think I was in some dark, heavy duty mode.  Just hadn't heard that pronunciation before and was reluctant to say anything as I might stepping on someone with a speech impediment.
And gringal, I'm hardly ever serious about anything except when I'm discussing the orangutan, and then I'm only serious half the time as I'm guilty of laughing at Forest Gump type people, especially when they are POTUS.

BTW, if you are in Ireland at a pub and you want a sandwich....you ask for a SAMBO. (east coast or west coast).... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

So far we have sammich, sankwich, sarnoff, and sambo. Anybody out there got any other names for sandwich?

Actually, the British version is 'sarny', not sarnoff... Beer

The Earl must spinning in his grave with so many new names.  Maybe a good thing if he is trying to hide from those he has incurred poker debts to.
