ISO best garden nurseries
Anyone have recommendations for garden nursery with good selections? Have already checked out the one at the Walmart intersection. Last time I was there the selection was somewhat low. Thanks!

Re: ISO best garden nurseries
There are a couple that I like... one is opposite the 711 in Riberas and the other is in West Ajijic opposite La Huerta Plaza. There is also one behind Superlake... that one is easiest to get to if you turn right at the first set of lights east of Walmart and it will be on your left about a half a block down towards the lake.
Have fun... there is a wonderful selection right now. I went looking about the middle of December and there was nothing available anywhere except for Poinsettias (Noche Buenas).

Re: ISO best garden nurseries
I've been in ALL the Lakeside plant nurseries, and I just discovered one that I think has the best plants, great variety and in really good condition. Vivero Larios. It´s in the east end of Jocotepec, on the lake side of the street you drive in on (carretera along the lake). More info, address etc on this web site

You know it has to be good if I'm willing to wade through all the traffic on the way to Jocotepec :-)

Another good one in SJC
On the Carretera, lakeside, about a block before the only traffic light in San Juan Cosala. Very small storefront, but it winds back into the block and has an extensive selection of flowering plants and herbs. Very healthy plants, too!

Yes, I like that one too. If you haven't been to that one in SJC, check it out.
There is also one next to Telecable in Riberas, the people are knowledgeable but it's kinda disorganized. You may find something unusual in there.
Another one is up just behind the Ajijic Clinic, better for pots than plants though, Vivero Azucena.
I can't think of a single one in Chapala. . .

You're right, not much in Chapala! The municipal nursery on Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala will let you buy plants but their offerings are very minimal; and there's a truck often parked by the muni market, and another occasionally parked near the lake end of Pepe Guizar. Probably just as well that I need to make an expedition to buy plants....

@ holdrja.
You should be posting your own website with its wonderful description of "paso poop". I understand, from a friend, that your compost is absolutely the best!

Thanks so much, ferret! You're right, I should post that link and will -- here, and in the 4 Sale section. A couple of landscapers discovered us and we were sold out for a while, but now have plenty of inventory -- our 10 stalls are all full and those ponies keep on churning out the product :-)

I've been hunting at many viveros for Romero Rastrera. No luck. If anyone finds some, please let me know.
Cheers,
Michael

OMG! That's GORGEOUS! I would love some for my garden too.
And, just thought I'd pass on a word of warning. If you're thinking about trimming up your bugambilia, do NOT delay. I bought giant sized loppers for the task which I planned to do this week. Sunday night it all blew down with those 40 km gusts that happened around 8:30 p.m. Now, at least, I can paint the walls and get behind them easily... not a single leaf on any of them. Took me 6 hours and my hands were so sore and my arms so scratched up that I called Chapala Tree Services...and it took two strapping guys another two hours to finish the job. Don't delay, get it done.
