I was referring to socially acceptable (in general) tastes. Hey "Indio Bravo" Hot sauce (Ajii)from Ecuador, is another, in my opinion,great hot sauce!
Hey,does anybody like "Tabasco" hot sauce? How did a hao sauce from Louisiana get that name?

Many years ago when I lived in Atlanta, I had some reciprocal house guests from Mexico City visit me. They were amused that Tabasco Sauce had a name of a state in Mexico, so I bought them a giant sized bottle to take home with them. I went to the D.F. a few months later and saw the bottle 90% consumed on their table. I said to them that they must like it as the bottle was almost gone and they told mt that they liked the flavor, but it was so mild.

The most common complaint I hear amongst Mexicans about Tabasco is,  too much vinegar.

Cholula isn't difficult to get here....the only time you can't find any is when you're out of it.

Like everything else, always keep an extra bottle in the pantry if it's that important to you, etc. The stuff probably has a shelf life of a decade.



Re: Miracle Whip. I've never cared for it, but a friend from a small Mexican beach town lit up like a Christmas tree when he visited and saw a wall of it at Superlake. That was then .... a few years ago .... don't know if they have any now. Good luck.

Back in the 1800's Hellmans from England regularly sent huge shipments of mayonnaise to Mexico (with lemon juice). This was popular as it was the only store-bought brand.
In May of 1865 a whole shipload went down in a storm in the Gulf of Mexico.
An emergency trainload of Miracle Whip was sent down from the USA, but ever since the shipment lost was called: "El Sinko de Mayo"

I think that ship that the Mexicans sank was coming from France as they were the enemy at the time.  They fought something called the "Bread War" a few years before, so it was logical that mayonnaise, would be the next WMD to be introduced.

I concur 100% with RichD -- Cholula is the one and only hot sauce for those of us who like it not too extreme in either direction except for depth in flavor.
