Moving Down
Alright all, you all have been very helpful in the past and I post yet again for some help lol.
I have what I need to come on down to lake side, but looking for the best window. The plan will be to stay at the hotel in Chapala to allow me to check out apts ect in the area before I rent. So when is the best time to start with that? Any time after the Holidays is my time frame. Thanks

Re: Moving Down
The best time for rentals is after the snowbirds leave - early spring, end of Feb/March. . .
Having said that, if you're looking for a Mexican house in a Mexican village, owned by a Mexican family, priced very economically in pesos - they're available all year 'round. The snowbirds typically don't rent those houses.

Re: Moving Down
Yep, the best time is after the high season which ends around April 1.

That is the best time of the year for house hunting. Just keep in mind that April and May are the hottest months of the year. It is hot, dry and dusty until mid-June when the rains begin. Then it cools down and everything turns lush and green.

I am thinking early February based on what I am seeing. I would expect to take a few weeks or so to find something. Are the hotels there fairly available or are there times when they are full?

Re: Moving Down
Semana Santa (Easter week) may be difficult to find a room. Otherwise you should have no problem.

Depends on where you want to stay. B&B's and hotels in Ajijic centro are pretty full until March. I'm not sure what some of the other village vacancy rates are like.

Re: Moving Down
If you want a larger selection of rentals, wait until April, so that the “snowbirds“ will have vacated. Landlords will also be more likely to be available & more willing to negotiate good prices for a long term tenant. Earlier than that, and many places will still be occupied and unavailable for inspection; or inconvenient at best.

Re: Moving Down
I don't actually know about current availability, but there are two places on the carretera, lakeside, before Aquiles Serdan where people stay long term. Some even for the whole season. They are suites and have kitchens.
