Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
Probably hit Tripp's once a week, never more than a 5 minute wait with a VERY friendly staff, whether it's to eat there or to go. If you can't figure out it's a food court with people sitting around in the common area eating from different establishments, then no amount of explaining here will do the job.

In those days only in Sausalito could Sally have survived and now you have Trump running the whole damn country.
Irish wolfhounds aren't given a "puppy" stage. They go directly from born to big.
Do you remember the hotel on the higher level above the main drag that was a favorite hangout of Bogey and Bacall, and few other Hollywood celebs? Can't remember the name of the place and it was above my station in life anyway.
And those late night runs over Mt Tamalpais to Muir on the beach.....those were the bad ol' days.

Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
Toca Madera (Calle Ramon Corona 15A in Chapala, right across from the malecon, just east of Zaragoza) is another definite candidate for best burger at Lakeside. I'd guess it's about 5 oz., char-grilled, with bacon and cheese at no extra charge if you wish, much higher quality bun than Tripp's, Bruno's or Gossip's. The fries aren't world-class - they're thick-cut like Bruno's - but still tasty.
Meanwhile 2 regular burgers, fries and sodas at Tripp's on a recent visit when we were famished enough to be willing to overpay for convenience was 250 pesos. Even at 18 pesos to the dollar that's a N.O.B. price for quality that doesn't remotely compare to 5 Guys or any of the other upscale fast food places Tripp's tries to imitate.

So... let's get this straight... A bunch of gringos move to Mexico, expect American-style service and products, served by employees who (apparently) receive full benefits, a pension, vacation, and a decent salary... And you want to complain that you're not able to buy their products at slave wages?
OK! I was just checking. Maybe you should all just be happy eating tacos on the street.

You've completely missed the point posters here (few if any of whom are newbies - unlike yourself, apparently) are making, which is that Tripp's has pushed their prices to an absurd level.
You're making a lot of claims and assumptions about how Tripp's runs their business, while slandering innumerable local restaurants (from taquerias to every competing place that offers burgers). Where's your evidence? Can you prove that Adelita's and Gossip's - both of which offer much better burgers than Tripp's - are paying their staff "slave wages" and not paying benefits? It takes a rare level of talent to not only miss the point of three pages of informed posts but also slander Mexican street food (some of the best in the world) in the process.
Some people should just stay home - or at least heed the famous adage: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

Small business in Mexico is pure capitalism. Supply, demand, quality, price, and business expertise will sort everything out.
Just let the river flow.

I'm perfectly happy with Tripp's burgers and don't object to the price either, especially since you don't leave tips there.

Nothing wrong with enjoying a burger now and then. Nothing wrong with restaurant owners in a gringo-saturated area providing said burgers in various permutations to said gringos at whatever price the traffic will bear.

In Guadalajara, between Burger King, McDonalds, Carl's Jr.'s 17 locations, Cuarto de Kilo and a multitude of other "hamburguesa purveyors", how many hamburguesas do you think are sold in one day in that city.
Mexican food? get real, this 2017. I have family and friends that don't speak English, never been in the US, don't know any Americans, and eat/love hamburguesas.
We do raise and consume beef in this country, along with most of the condiments that go with this so called "foreign food".

Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
Apparently there is something wrong.. judging by all the negative conversations generated by burger joints..
They all seem to start out fine and then the complain start....really you are not talking about high cuisine, just make one at home to your liking and go out for something else if loal restaurants cannot make a decent burger at a decent price..

Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
We have already cussed and discussed the local burger offerings along with whether we "should" forget burgers and eat Mexican food.
Food is food. Other than vegetarians, most everybody likes beef burgers; that includes expats and Mexicans. Vegetarians have come up with "veggie burgers". There's even plenty of fans of (gasp) the U.S. type chain burgers. What's the problem?
My preference: a lean sirloin burger with plenty of flavor. There are several good local ones. I don't have to go home and do-it-myself.
Others prefer a juicier, fattier one. Plenty of those, too.
As far as pricing is concerned, it looks like it's all over the place. I guess that if you're hungry and in the mood, Tripps prices don't phase most people since it's still in business.

Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
I don't understand why some people keep insisting other people should just make their own when those other people have made it clear they have no desire to cook. Why would I want to go out to purchase ingredients, prepare and cook them and then clean up the mess to have one hamburger when for a very reasonable price I can just go to one of several places that serve delicious burgers?

TOB is worse in that way: mention you are looking for something you want to go out and buy and some helpful soul will pop right in with a recipe! Never fails.

You may not understand that you are paying 3-5 times the price of a home-made hamburger. Others may not understand your extravagance for such a simple item, but would justify that cost for a more complex meal in a restaurant. Then, there are the multitude who do not have your options and seldom enjoy a hamburger.
A convenience to one, may be a true luxury for another.

Aw, c'mon RV: We all understand how much cheaper it is to eat-ta-home!
Many long years ago, I was a hungry, thrifty student and had a jillion ways to stretch my groceries. Happily, I can afford my eat-out burger nowadays.
My empathy for those who can't.

Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
The reason you would do it is because people seem to be unhappy with whatever is available.
I do not eat burgers as a rule..so frankly it does not affect me one way or the other.
No I do not think hambugers are traditinal Mexican food but that does not prevent lo lots of Mexican from eating them.
We live a couple of blocks from a Burger king in SC and the customers are mostly Mexicans.. the little indigenous kids are roaming through the place begging for French fries and coke.. another great addition to their already bad diet..

Hamburgers cooked on a very well-seasoned restaurant grill taste better than one cooked on a sterile home skillet. They just do.

True, the Aztecs and other indigenous did not eat hamburguesas, pre colonial, but neither did Europeans and the non existent European-
Americans at that time. I can take you towns all over Mexico where hardly a foreign face shows up and they have had hamburguesas somewhere in the vicinity and have had for years. Maybe not exactly the same as a McDonald's Big Mac, but the Mexican version of same.
The lower demand in some areas is/was economic because of the price of beef....and 40/50 years ago, the lack of refrigeration in many small towns. Beef had to be slaughtered and consumed on the same day, not leaving the option of grinding and packaging.

Re: Tripps....bring your credit card!!!!!
We did not have refrigeration after the war and we ate steach hache which is ground beef or horse meat but I sure would not claim that we ate hamburgers.. same with the Mexicans..
You do not need to tell me Mexicans eat hamburgers now,, I live a block from Burger King and it is all Mexicans including indigenous so things change but it is still not a traditional Mexican Mexican food and same with pizzas and many other dishes.
In all the joints around and in the market no hamburgers are sold..
They also sell hot dogs on the street with the worst winners ...Is that a Mexican dish as well? I guess in a way they are because they could not be sold anywhere but in France or Mexico where people have no clue of how delicious they can be.
We have burgers and hot dogs in France to and we consider them as an import from the US culture , we do not consider them French and I do not think the Mexicans look at them as Mexican either.. actually when we have anti US spills around here the burger joints are the first one people are against..
