Opa Restaurant
If you are having a Greek craving try out the new Opa Restaurant on Colon in Ajijic. Right across the street and a wee bit north of Tango's. We had the gyro's and greek salad. Very authentic, muy bueno.

What days are they open?

Re: Opa Restaurant
I liked the falafel I had there (lamb, others offered). Only tried it once, grabbed take out--work right down the street, but was pleased. Thought it strange to find a few random french fries mixed into the greek burrito, but then I was told "that's very Athens". Whatever. Never been to Greece….what do I know? Tiny place, only a handful of tables, but it's been busy which is a good sign. I'll definitely be trying more of what they make. So nice to have a new place offering new flavors instead of the same old tired junk that's already available…..EVERYWHERE.

That may be "very Athens" but I'll be sure to ask them to "hold the fries" when I go.
Yes, it's good to have something different to taste. One reason I appreciate Cocinart's weekly 'round the world specials, changing every Thursday.

Went there last night, very good greek food, they hope to add daily specials. Rosa your comment about same old junk food seems a little out of line.

What is "out of line" about expressing an opinion on a web forum?

Nothing is "out of line" re one's right to express an opinion. I think that putting all the local restaurants in a bag labeled "same old junk" is debatable. Some, IMHO, are far better than others and do offer a variety of well prepared meals.
OPA is a welcome addition to the choices.

Re: Opa Restaurant
It is debatable so not out of line to begin yet another debate here. I happen to agree with your assessment of the local restaurant scene, Gringal. But, apparently poor Rosa is feeling a touch of ennui and needed a bit of palate tickling at Opa.

It is good to be "tickled", preferably pink.

Re: Opa Restaurant
Apologies if I stated my opinion too bluntly for some. I'm just happy that Opa is offering something different than already exists at 173 of the 214 restaurants in town. Arrachera anyone?

But seriously (well, sort of)..........when I moved here over eight years ago, you could count the "regular, full service" restaurants on the fingers of one hand....maybe less. We're lucky to have as much variety as we do, in this remote outpost of the dining world. What top chef in his right mind would set up shop here, in the land of the tight budgets, the thrifty, the taste buds from the Midwest and the downright cheap? Never mind the arrachera: how about all that deep fry?

Well put Gringal, We seemed to have settled on ten or so dining establishments that we enjoy and should probably broaden our experience

Re: Opa Restaurant
Rosa I totally agree. I just saw an ad for another new restaurant serving [drum roll please] fried chicken and hamburgers. Very big yawn. I didn't eat that at restaurants NOB, why would I want it here? I agree Greek food sounds lovely.

Re: Opa Restaurant
My wife and I enjoyed Opa. For sure no doubt a good addition to the culinary community in my opinion. Fair price good food. Very small and sometimes later in the day out of certain things but expected in a small restaurant in the off season.
