Another "little" shoot out this morning, 4 am
Now, how very inconsiderate is that. Couldn't they do the cowboy/indian game during the day ? This (Very EARLY) morning, they decided to have a little gunbattle right in front of my house (across from the Chapala Red Cross)..... bullets still on the ground and a burnt police motorcycle on the corner of my block. Hey guys, I do need my sleep, so please, not around 4 am... I AM getting older any my heart can not take too much of this (needless to say, I was virtually hanging on my bedroom ceiling).

How exciting. Did they get away?
Not wasted on you, as you are still young at heart.

Well at least they did it in front of the Red Cross so the victims could be easily attended too.

Proximity is good, but somebody will post that they, "the victims", had to sit in the waiting room for hours.

It's just boys having fun.........
Re: Another "little" shoot out this morning, 4 am
Next time, I will let them try my cream filled chocolates...... As long as they don't interrupt my beauty sleep anymore. There should be a law against shoot outs after a certain hour. I just had my ears unwaxed too. The nerve..... really.Ms.Thang wrote:I hear chocolate can have a very calming effect.

A certain well known "moderator" has been campaigning for that, for years.

Better in the wee small hours when the gunshots ruin your sleep than in the middle of the day when you are out and about and possibly in a position to catch a stray bullet ...

Also, a good way to discourage unwanted relatives from wanting to come and spend some time when you really don't want the inconvenience of their "company" day and night.

Fortunately a couple of posters have decided that the Chapala shootout didn't actually happen - no doubt that'll be a great relief to you, Elbelgicano. I called them on it somewhat sarcastically so I expect to be ducking for cover myself pretty soon ....

OK, start ducking.....
"a couple of posters have decided that the Chapala shootout didn't actually happen".
Since we have been debating other aspects of the situation around here, I'm assuming that in addition to Pedro, that I complete your description of a "couple", as I didn't see any other disclaimers to el belgicano's account....nor did I refute it.
Never once did I say it didn't happen, but when you have conflicting versions of an incident, before I sign on with anyone, someone had better verify. You have a positive premise (it did happen), and negative premise (it didn't happen), and the burden of proof usually lies with the positive premise.

Well, I believe the OP here. He's a sensible person, he wasn't over-reacting or getting hysterical, he wasn't speculating or rumour mongering, and I believe he saw and experienced exactly what he said he did. One credible eye-witness with no personal agenda or axe to grind is good enough evidence for me.
I haven't seen any credible conflicting versions of this incident.

Re: Another "little" shoot out this morning, 4 am
When, the same morning, I was talking about this little incident at the market, a policeman (NOT in uniform) was listening to me and after I left (that is how brave he was), he told the other people, that.... it didn't happen.
Other people also said : "well, ... I haven't heard about it and it wasn't in the newspapers (silly people)..... so, it didn't happen" (very smart reasoning). It is the same kind of people that are still fooled about the news, like near La Barca 44 BAD guys died and ONLY 2 GOOD guys,.... the simplistic thinking that swallows any figure and fact, presented by the government or (same thing) media (just read posts about it and could not help shaking my head)
The "peritajes"(investigators) from Guadalajara that same morning, in front of my house, must have been my imagination as well. But.... hold on, I remember now.... I got up that particular morning and I thought "what kind of story can I come up with today.
The "it didn't happen syndrome" fits the present political atmosphere and is exactly what the authorities, the real estate people and the simple minds want, for the ones who wish to play that game, feel tree. Thks Traveller for not doubting me.
Fortunately, I don't really feel the urge to convince people about wether it happened or not.... no dog in this fight, I possess no real estate and I don't feel the need to convince my family in Europe that this is as safe as Switserland. Mind you,.... I actually don't feel unsafe here.(in Belgium I die of boredom).
I have learnt a long time ago, that a lot of people prefer to create their own reality and it really is a waste of time to try to make them see the light.
The more that the media and government will try to downplay incidents, the more I will feel the urge to share real experiences or facts (regardless of some people doubting me). Also in this country there is freedom of expression(legally at least), wether they like it or not. The day that this will not be possible anymore, I will be out of here, that simple. It will be "hasta la vista, baby " (if I dont get shot) ..... believe it or not, up to you.

Some things needn't be questioned nor proven.... these things are accepted as known truths... such as:
A Bear Is Catholic ... and The Pope does Shit In The Woods....
U shoulda taken me up on the El Limon deal.... safer out there

Re: Another "little" shoot out this morning, 4 am
good for you 3 and other believers. was there any of these evidence tags around the alleged shell casings?
how many investigator's? insurance adjusters perhaps? yes police vehicles are insured. was there a herd of ministirio publico investigators on the scene? no forensics truck from ocotlan? no word from anybody from cruz roja[eg,doc sam] like about the guy that was shot right there a long time ago? and i say again those newspaper hawkers from guadalajara are on us like dirty shirts anytime the smallest crime, etc. happens. it makes them money dontcha know.
by the way some police do carry extra ammo on their motos, sooooo if it crashes and happens to catch fire-watch out!
elbelg is a very fine fellow, has helped the mexican community unselfishly and makes fine chocolate. i hope he will continue to make it for us,especially the marzipan.

Re: Another "little" shoot out this morning, 4 am
Thks Pedro.
Someone told me about the burnt police motorcycle, but I had not seen it myself (my Mexican neighbour told me about that).
From 3:59 (4 bullets fired in front of my house) in the morning until I got up, I heard the police radio. They were guarding the scene (AND the bullet cases, under a glass), until.... as I stated, "peritajes" from Guadalajara arrived.
When I went out (8 am), to walk the dog, together with my neighbour (B. .... also from Canada, who lives 2 houses or so from me, and also worried about what was going on), I approached the policemen, guarding the scene, asking them EXACTLY, what had happened.... ofcourse, they told us, that they could not give info about it and told us to leave the scene !! When I walked into town, later that morning, I asked a policeman (fortunately, ...not an official explanation), who had worked that night and off duty than and he gave me a rough explanation, basically saying, nobody killed, policeman slightly injured, when falling off his motorbike (in the whole turmoil). That is why the newspaper hawkers weren't outthere : either they were not allowed to, or..... since nobody got killed, the story was not big enough.
After the 4 bullets were shot (the police had put a glass above the casings), I peeped through the window, and all I saw, was motorbike police and other police cars, racing by, in the direction of the old train station.
These things become like every day events. Only 3 months ago, 2 or 3 people shot and killed at the park, across the street from me as well...., again, I read here how it was "downplayed" like a simple betting incident.... did not go into the discussion, because I like going on the webboards, but I have a life outside of it as well.
What I find strange is..... why the big mystery around this and cover up from different sides, if this was all that happened..... Why "peritajes" from Guadalajara here.... (I saw them here for several hours). There is a big construction going on on my street and basically all the workers saw them.
And ofcourse, nothing against you personally, Pedro, but you are questioning the wrong side here. All Mexicans and a lot of expats know that, as much as they possibly can, they prefer to keep us in the dark,..... and that is dangerous. Unfortunately, it does seem that, for some part at least, they succeed at it. The pianist is shot at and for every killing there seems to be an "innocent" explanation.... all in the midst of narcobloqueos, a few mass graves and massive shoot outs, go figure. And if that particular "pianist" would have a history of coming up with all kinds of stories.... I would understand.
Reality is what it is, and people can colour it as much as they can, if it makes them feel better. So far, I can live with this reality, no fooling myself needed.
That is not how my mind works, but who am I, just a simple chocolate maker..... And ofcourse, the authorities have an excellent reputation of being honest and always telling the truth......so, please, do go for their official version of the facts.
