Property tax increase
This last January all property owners received a healthy increase on their taxes. Has anyone seen any benefits from the increase in revenue? Any projects, added services, improvements to services, anything that could be attributed to the additional money they have received?

You're looking in the wrong place for "improvements" - you need to check the parking lot by the palacio and see who's driving a new truck or car.

Re: Property tax increase
I'm sure there are massive improvements to the houses of many politicians, etc.
And BTW, I noticed a few weeks ago some major tearing up of the main drag in Chapala. It looked as if a whole lane of pavers was taken out and then replaced.
I saw no difference nor any issues with the area before the (make) work.
What's really needed is fixing the many potholes on the freeway (or whatever it's called) going from Chapala to the bottom of the hill. No wonder cars don't last that long here.

You may find that the increased tax revenue is being used to pay off debts incurred by a previous municipal administration. You may also find that the seeming cutback in municipal services is the result of an effort by the current administration to operate within the confines of a balanced budget.

They are re-doing the main drag in front of Cristiana Parque in Chapala. Looks like a huge job.
Re: Property tax increase
It is a huge job, CBob--and much needed. I lived on that street when I first moved to Chapala. Flooding was a major issue and standing water remained for days. That street was torn up and dug deep into the middle of December and work has progressed steadily since then. Looks as though they getting close to completion.

It will be really nice when it is done. I think they even put large planters down the center. Muy bueno indeed.

I believe the repaving of Avenida Gonzalez Gallo (the street along Parque Cristiania) is being done with state funds which became available when a building project on the Chapala malecon was cancelled. The municipal government has no funds for anything so extensive.

I had heard also that it was state funding.
By the way, the project is more than just repaving. All sorts of new pipes were laid while the street was dug up. I drive back and forth on Avenida Gonzalez Gallo several times a week and it has been most impressive watching this project develop.
