Re: Electric meters
NE, When you find an electrician that is smart enough to actually figure out the problem, could you please let me know their name. I have had the same issue for years !!

Re: Electric meters
Sorry, CanuckBob. I didn't see your question until now. No, we don't have any heaters in the house. We do have wall AC's in the bedrooms but they are not currently being used.
Update, Brad stopped out yesterday. He does have a reliable electrician that he works wth. They will be back and run some tests.

Re: Electric meters
For sure. My pool pump is running a bit hot and I suspect low voltage so I will be most interested in the electrician who can solve your problem.

Re: Electric meters
The former owner of my house had installed a "diablito" to steal electricity, the neighbors were his compadres,I get the feeling that he allowed them to tap into it somehow, I had the diablito removed.Trailrunner wrote:Mexicans are very clever!
My new neighbor works for the CFE,when I mentioned the discrepancy to him he said that was a likely scenario.

Re: Electric meters
Yes you have to keep an eye on the seal of your meter. My meter didn't have a seal when I first questioned that someone was stealing from me, but the way the concrete was around the cover I knew no one could get into it. When CFE came to check the meter, he had to knock the concrete loose to open it up. He put a seal on it when he was done.

Re: Electric meters
The seal on the meter means nothing. The metal loop can be cut right where it enters the lock and no one would notice it.

Re: Electric meters
Having experienced a similar problem several months ago..ie. my CFE bill went from its normal 500-700 pesos to 3800 pesos, while we were not there most of the billing period. I figured that they had misread my meter so I went and checked and the KWH readings were correct. Turned off the master breaker and no meter movement. After much wondering and investigating my electrical guy traced it to to my submersible pump in the aljibe that was drawing all the electrons heating the water in the aljibe..The pump was pulled, the aljibe cleaned, a new submersible pump purchased and installed and now the electric is down to 300-400 pesos every other month. Check those pumps, ( pool, aljibe and tinaco) as a possible source for sucking up electrons..It is never fun to pay the CFE $3-400US..When you know there is a problem..Good luck..
