Cosco search Legal when leaving ?

After I pay for merchandise, I believe I have Legal ownership.
Do the stores that stop and verify/search merchandise have a legal
right to perform this procedure?

Every Costco store in the US and Mexico do this.  Relax.

I have had that "procedure" work in my favour as in being charged twice for a single item. The nicer employees will remind you not to forget the item(s) on the bottom shelf. Done that.

Since theft is a problem that results in higher prices for me, I do not mind a store glancing at my receipt and what is in my cart. Costco had been doing that in the US and here for as long as I have been shopping at Costco.

Youre the first person I've heard complain about this,but that doesn't surprise me.
If you don't like their policies don't shop there.

I did not state any complaint, and with replies above, I can assume that none of you had an answer, but an overwhelming desire to insert an opinion.
My original post was a question, and I get advice & opinions of how I should feel and act.
The question still remains, maybe a gentleman of named Spencer will reply?

Interesting that Costco is consistently ranked in the top five consumer friendly companies and it just came out within the last week that they are ranked in the top three of the most desirable companies to work for because of their employment policies, employee benefits and compensation.

Cosco, on the other hand has been forced to recall thousands of child car seats, strollers, high chairs, etc.

Sam's does the same exit checks. Once in a while Home Depot will do it. Likewise at Office Depot here in Lerdo. These checks are not so much to question the customer's honesty as they are checks on the cashiers -- is everything in the cart also on the ticket? Are there any double charges?

Since you are so serious about posing questions, how about this one: how many times were you searched by the Transitos or Federales on the way to or returning from Costco?

They have the legal "right" to check and see that you are only taking the items you "legally" own out of the establishment. Sometimes, shockingly, folks go out the door with things they do not "legally" own.

If you were concerned about the legality you would have contacted an expert, perhaps an attorney. If you ask a webboard what were you expecting?

Yeah, who would ask a question on a web board, get answers and then shoot the messengers?

I shop Sam's, and have bought close to a Million usd from Home Depot. AND shop Cosco regularly

One would think that if you shop COSTCO regularly:
1) You wouldn't need to ask this question.
2) Unless you are tagging along with someone else, you should have a membership card in your wallet that would tell you how to spell the name. As an aside, there is one other lakeside resident who can't seem to get the spelling correct either but he may have an excuse since he is from the frozen tundra.

Have you been awarded a GOLD CARD from Home Depot for being one of the last of the big spenders? Since you claim to be a Sam's shopper, I guess that I can understand why you may not get the COSTCO concept! Still looking for those "blue light specials" in the wrong stores?

Is what you really mean that you want a free legal opinion from an attorney? If that is the case, you could have saved yourself a lot of time and aggravation by stating that in the OP.

Sundown, there is no venom from anyone but you. Please make an appointment with the attorney of your choice. Pay him/her for their time to meet with you. Pay them to take this investigation further if that's the decision you make.
