Re: Buying security cameras
The trick is not buying them, but having them professionally installed and maintained. This requires working off very high ladders and running weatherproof cables that won't leak or deteriorate. A proper installation may cost double or triple what it costs for equipment, and you not want to pay service calls. Heavy duty, simple and market proven is the way to go.

Sorry - I have heard nothing but bad news locally. Probably need a bi-lingual facilitator to call Guadalajara. Wait for the price of a full package, installed, with an estimate. Probably a security company which can offer monitoring. Here is a trusted one in Puerto Vallarta, run by a former Chief of Police, they speak English and may recommend someone Lakeside or Chapala.

I forgot to add "Steren's" for the dedicated do it yourselfer. They also have the heat wrap cable, silicone grease and cable slicing tools/accessories. Stores in Guadalajara, but they may deliver Lakeside for a fee.

Re: Buying security cameras
Costco has sets of security systems. One with four cameras and can only take four cameras and a black box and you supply a monitor. The other unit can take eight cameras, comes with four, a black box, and a monitor. They do not sell individual cameras. Fry's in US is where I bought better cameras. Normal Lorex camera resolution is 450 lines. I would buy 600 line cameras. I currently have six 450 line cameras running with a pan and scan going on the tower on the roof and one more 600 line camera for the front door to capture faces better.
Anybody wants to see what the Costco system look like let me know and you can come check it out at my
casa.
