If you don't connect it to the lan or Internet you can't have any problems as it can't talk to anyone. If you want to look at your cameras remotely and you hook it up to Internet than you could have problems. My Lorex box looks clean that I bought at Costco. That is a very careless thing for the manufacturer to let happen to firmware and maybe a reason to buy name brand products rather than the who knows where it came from generic Asian Box. Something to think about. If they were careless to not test the production boxes what else didn't they do?
