Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
chapala.com AKA TOB is the other board. It not being named is sort of a running joke here.
I am surprised the thread on this crime was allowed to go as long as it did over there. The administrator of TOB does not like bad news, anything that would reflect poorly on the idea of foreigners purchasing homes here. May have something to do with it being run by a real estate company.
Luckily, we have this board which allows us to communicate with each other about pretty much anything.

Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
Someone posted that they could come to this site to get further info on La Floresta and of course the children on TOB took it off in seconds.
I guess they think that anyone looking to purchase will find out, as if they won't. There is news NOB.
We all need to know when things like this happen here. MC probably doesn't want his house value to go down anymore.

Not so new. There was the elderly couple (German man, Mexican wife) beaten to death in Hotel Chapala Haciendas, and later the American man and his Mexican friend beaten to death in Mirasol. Those incidents both happened within the last two years, I believe.
Has anyone heard anything about arrests or convictions in these two cases?
Good point...the serial aspect.
CanuckBob...
Maybe your good deed of the day would be to go by the MP's office in Chapala and ask if they have anyone with the English comprehension skills to follow this thread, on this forum, on this board. as it seems probably, to be as good a "tip line", as any, for the investigators to follow.
This crime could be solved if everyone/anyone, would come forth with any information, however trivial; and if it's from the English speaking community, properly translated, for the investigators.
High and lows are subjective opinions. In this particular event, there is work to be done.

Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
Well the state POlice have arrived and lots of them. Marked and unmarked. They seem to be actively looking for something/someone, driving around Chapala and up into Barrio Lourdes and all of that up there, peering intently at people on the street. Maybe there is a suspect or description of a person or vehicle?
Thats my report from a bench on the Avenida...

You might be surprised by how efficient Mexican cops can be in a high profile case like this when they're pressured and otherwise motivated to solve it.Playaboy wrote:I really hate to say this but the reality of Mexico is that the "Police" won't catch them, they never do.

There is very little in life as nebulous as crime statistics nor as subject to misinterpretation, manipulation or even abuse. As Mark Twain observed: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
And comparing crime statistics across different jurisdictions is fraught with danger of false conclusion. (For instance - the fastest way to achieve a zero crime rate is to fire all police. No police = no reports = no stats = zero crime rate. Don't think it doesn't happen! Dominican Republic in the 1980s.)
Mexican police are faced with a unique set of challenges but that doesn't mean there are no good investigators among their ranks - they are there. And some of them are truly first rate - even if the statistics suggest otherwise.

As painful as reality is, there are some people always willing to make it sound worse. "They never do" is a sweeping statement -- and not true. Thank you, Axixic, for a voice of reason.

Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
santacci, do you have any more information on that? "2 hours ago" doesn't say when unless we know when it was posted on Twitter.
I was witness to/involved in an armed robbery attempt on 16th of Septiembre around 12:15pm today. This involved an American woman being robbed of her purse by a young Mexican male, maybe around 20, who had a knife.
I do not think this has anything at all to do with what happened in La Floresta.

Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
I don't know. I called the police while my friend chased the kid with the purse. The kid dropped the purse and the woman got it back.
The emergency police number in Chapala was busy (!!!) for five minutes. I kept thinking I was dialing my cell phone wrong in the adrenaline rush of the moment (my friend and I had stopped the kid....which is when I saw the knife. Then my friend chased after him).
I finally got through to the Police via Ajijic, and they arrived in two minutes. I gave them a description of the kid (around twenty years old, black shirt with white numbers on it). When I returned five minutes later in my car (to go look for my friend to see if he was okay), the police had a 45-year-old man in the back of the truck. (WTF???) At least he had a black shirt on.
I made it clear to the police that this wasn't the guy, so they quickly let him go. My friend arrived back a few minutes later. He had chased the kid down the lake and then up to El Torito, but the kid got away. I have no idea what, if anything, the police did after that.
Don't know if the American woman plans to report it or not. I will probably see her tomorrow, as she's offering to pay for my friend's sunglesses, which got broken in the skirmish. I'll try to remember to ask her.

I hate to say it but maybe time to bring in the military for a while and extinguish some cockroaches.

I dunno, Bob. Too soon, I think. The military is great at some things but not so great at other things. Let the police do their job.

Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
Well in the past week we have had two home invasions (where violence was used) and a purse jacking that we all know of. I have also had a non stop parade of beggars ringing my doorbell the past few days so WTF???
Re: Double murder robbery in La Floresta?
Yes, but although a military presence might make us all feel better it also might drive the real criminals underground or out of here completely. THAT will feel nice for a little while but I'd rather see them caught and dealt with rather than merely chased away.
I dunno. Coin toss, really. Temporary versus more permanent fix? I might be Pollyanna here.

It's a moot point. The military is busy in Michoacan.

IMHO they're rarely caught, and even then not really "dealt with."

We need descriptions of the vehicles stolen so we can actually look for them.

Maybe they could post a couple of soldiers on your block to discourage that sort of stuff.CanuckBob wrote:I have also had a non stop parade of beggars ringing my doorbell the past few days so WTF???

In Mexico you can literally get away with murder. 27500 murders and 523 people sentenced in 2012. That is not attitude, this is the facts of life living in Mexico. Result speak for themselves.

The vehicles were abandoned and recovered shortly after I believe.
