Double Homicide in Riberas
Facebook crime page is going crazy about a double homicide in Riberas last night. So far I have read a father/son house sitting duo were the victims and others stating it was the robbers themselves that were shot and killed.
Does anyone here know anything yet?

Only that hysteria is reigning supreme all the way to Baja California with some posters.
I'm sure there will be a lot of reporting on the incident when it gets sorted out.

Re: Double Homicide in Riberas
That site is hard to read!
I do like knowing of events that have happened, or are happening, but the endless verbal hand-wringing, sky is falling, and constant fear that one reads in the comments are alarming in that they reveal the mindset of a certain population of residents here. They mostly appear to be newbies as I never recognize a single name and they appear younger than us typical retirees. If I had to live with that much terror I would certainly change my life!
The amusing one or two hucksters are the ones who capitalize on this craziness, rush up to Guad, and bring back a whole array of self defense tools ( pepper spray, alarms, cameras, etc) and sell them to the crowd meeting them at Black Coffee when they return. Seems to be highly lucrative!

Maybe we'll get lucky and the most fearful will head back north where they are "safer".

Yes!
Friend who has been house hunting was told by a real estate salesperson to wait a couple of years and prices will come down with increased availability as these folks bail back to from whence they came.

One can hope. However, I suspect many of them can't afford to live in any desirable spot in the U.S. on their income post-jobs. In that case, they will have to adjust to Mexican realities, watch their step on the clobberstones or spend the rest of their lives beetching and moaning...as some seem to do.

Where, in Riberas, was this supposed to have occurred? I live here and haven't heard or seen anything untoward. Doesn't mean it didn't happen but ???

I quit that site when they let Lisa Jorgensen in. Where in Riberas did this happen?

No sign of the post on TOB. Must have been deleted in favor of more important posts of feces throwing gringas and RV parking.

Re: Double Homicide in Riberas
I am beginning to think the posters on that page are in panic mode and perhaps it didn't happen at all. It is said to have occurred near Avenida de la Ribera and San Juan (lower Riberas), very close to where I live. I know guns, and what gunshots sound like, we heard nothing. Other than seeing a police truck getting gas early yesterday morning at the new Pemex, there has been no police activity.

It wasn't posted on TOB, it was on the Facebook Lake Chapala "crime watch" group page. The paranoia on that site is amazing but it doesn't mean nothing happened.

FB Crime Watch page just reported from the admin. that the son was killed near San Nicholas and the father in Riberas. It's all about drugs. Not about house sitting.

Re: Double Homicide in Riberas
Mexican speculation is way more interesting. Seems that it did happen in Riberas. It was a father and son. It involved an old grudge going back 20 years and previous criminal activity. It was not a robbery. Four guys came to settle a score on behalf of another guy in prison. Father was the one they were after. A fight was put up. Father was killed on site but son was taken, tortured, and killed elsewhere. The guy who told me was clear that this is the story, not necessarily the truth. This is more than those posting on Facebook will admit.

I like your post best Lady, more action, interest, history, revenge, torture, local, only need a love gone wrong spot and you've got a 10 peso novel. Please keep up the good work!

Has anyone approached you to secure the film rights? I smell franchise! I understand Mel is available.

That's what I'm hearing too. Maybe they were "house sitting" on a stash.

Are you trying to destroy the panic and paranoia level that so many worked so hard to get to. Light skinned gringos were almost in a stampede heading in all directions.
SHAME ON YOU!!!
Meanwhile, what is the best relief for over indulgence of chiles en nogada from Dia de Independencia?

I know, right! Foreigners totally lack in the story telling relm. Except you, Subtle. You have the gift. That is why you recognize the beauty of the nationals’ version. Collectively, they created a great narrative that was much closer to what actually happened than the foreigners getting an adrenaline rush from Crime Porn then running around screaming, “We’re all gunna die!” I will speak to my source about the missing element of love gone wrong. I think he will appreciate the tip.

Re: Double Homicide in Riberas
I wonder if the murder victims were responsible for the recent burglary crime wave in Riberas? After all, to hear some of the elite Ajijicans tell it, Riberas is a poverty-stricken hell hole so why would anyone steal from the poor people living there? Unless they lived there too and easily could see the comings & goings of local residents?

Re: Double Homicide in Riberas
I have no such prejudices against Ajijicans at all since some of my best friends live there but the remarks that the Riberas residents didn’t want sewers because of the cost after the government asked them is untrue. I have lived there over 8 years and nobody has asked me or any neighbors of mine some of whom have lived there longer and they weren’t asked either. “Failed fracc” “Chapala’s poor stepchild” and when the bitching about trash pickup, potholes and every other woe Ajijic has is mentioned it’s usually followed by a variation on the theme that at least they’re better off than Riberas. Well, sorry but no trash pick up problems to speak of that I know about. Most on my street have permanent containers that if the trash IS skipped, dogs don’t get into it and scatter it. No parking issues either.
So deflecting isn’t apropos. There has been NO request by the government to pay a few thousand to install sewers. Had there been, I would cheerfully pay. I have no loud bars playing awful music at all hours, the few cohetes I have heard have not been enough to scare the dogs and oh and speaking of sewage, on more than one occasion I have seen the broken pipe by the lake near Maria Isobel spewing raw sewage right by the pier.
I won’t apologize for the rant as I am sick to death of the snide cracks and superior attitude displayed by SOME Ajijic residents, especially on TOB.

The down arrow wasn't mine, but yes, I deleted my post for the very reason your post illustrates. The term "elite Ajijicans" is offensive to those of us who happen to live there, and there are several other posters who have implied that residence in Ajijic implies snobbery. There's no good reason to reinforce that myth. I, personally, don't know anyone with that attitude toward those who live in other towns and haven't heard that kind of attitude on this board.
As for the sewer fee question, I recall that it was a large enough one that many families simply cannot afford it, no matter how much they might want sewers. Who was or was not asked, or by whom, and when, is unclear.
Peace.

Re: Double Homicide in Riberas
Whoever made that comment about sewer being offered and declined in Riberas is very much mistaken. No such offer was ever made. That is the point that Carry Bean is trying to make. We all know that there are families that can't afford it so it's up to those of us that can to carry the load (no pun intended).
That doesn't mean that those of us who can afford it up front are giving a freebie. Perhaps those who can't will pay X per month for a certain time until their obligation is fulfilled. Perhaps those who fronted the cost will get a decrease in the monthly sewer rate. There are many creative ways to get this infrastructure in place... but an actual offer and decline? Didn't happen.
