Re: Lots of Canadians
Lizzy, my fingers were itching to correct the "Nanette" error. You beat me to it!
By the way, if you are familiar with Carole Bedford, her husband was one of the original Mouseketeers. She often sings at various establishments at Lakeside (when she isn't in California, that is), and I've had occasion to meet them both. Very interesting and friendly persons.

Well, Lizzy -- I never watched that show, but I have to think that his name was "Alan." That's what it is today: Alan Bedford.bobnliz wrote:What was her husband's name? As a Mouseketeer. Lizzy

(In my visions of grandeur, I thought Carol & I might do some recordings together. The closest I got to that goal was singing with her at La Bodega in Ajijic and at Tomas in Chapala. That was a great honor for me.)

Re: Lots of Canadians
There isn't any listing of Alan on any of the Mouseketeer sites. I watched that show religiously back in the day. Maybe he used another name?

According to Imbd, he wasn't the choreographer for Viva Las Vegas, either.

Frankly speaking, I'm more interested in that 455ci Olds 442 and San Francisco in the late 60s.

Re: Lots of Canadians
Folks, I don't know any more than what I've stated.
I don't know if Alan was the name he used on the show; I don't know if he used a pseudonym as choreographer (not unheard of).
If you really, really, really want more information than you can find on the Internet sites, contact Carol or Alan by means of the e-mail addresses that are provided on the site I mentioned above.
All I can provide for you is that I know them personally, I've performed with Carol, and I've heard from more than one source that Alan was a Mouseketeer (and that he hates to be so identified, as if that were the supreme accomplishment of his life).

I rented a Carol and Alan Bensman's house in West Ajijic a couple of years ago. Are you sure of the last name?

Well if you want to talk auto's. This is the fuel injection unit I just put on my 63' Vette.
Re: Lots of Canadians
Yes, Bob -- I'm sure of the last name: "Bedford"; their establishment is in San Juan Cosalá and Carol's name is well-known at Lakeside. I first became aware of her talents at a fund-raiser for "The Ranch" (Gudrun Jones's "Lakeside Spay & Neuter Center") where Carol provided the musical entertainment. (Shirley Haverland was the comedienne for the evening.)CanuckBob wrote: I rented a Carol and Alan Bensman's house in West Ajijic a couple of years ago. Are you sure of the last name?
Carol has recorded in Nashville and is a well-known artist in and around Ajijic. She's also a Superior Court Judge from California and has an office in Ajijic, providing legal services for residents.
(Sorry if this sounds like I'm "shilling" for her; I'm surprised that more people here aren't aware of her and her many talents.)
I apologize for high-jacking this thread, but folks seem to be interested; and I am able to provide some (if not completely sufficient) information.

Re: Lots of Canadians
I thought Carol had gone back to CA and was no longer around. Is that incorrect?

Re: Lots of Canadians
I bought the Bedford's house in San Juan Cosala more than a year ago. At that time she gave me a phone number in Chapala where they could be reached. But recently I've received phone calls from people looking for a Notary Public (which she was licensed to do) and someone who called me said she heard they moved back to the US. I don't know more than that.

Yes, that is what I heard too, that they moved back to the U.S. Too bad, we were going to get together and do Bluegrass.

Re: Lots of Canadians
I wasn't aware of the move -- permanent? I last saw her when she teamed with Jerry Mayfield at Tomas in Chapala....
(They didn't check with me before making the decision to move!!!)

Re: Lots of Canadians
Dawg considers it his duty to clarify this issue of the question of from whence come the worst drivers on earth once and for all. In my 68 years, I have only spent one day in Canada and that was in the 1960s when I drove up to Vancouver, BC on a Sunday only to immediately flee back to Washington State when I discovered that, in those days at least, Vancouver was a "dry" city on Sunday and Dawg could not buy a drink. Never went back to Canada so I cannot remark intelligently on Canadian drivers. However, I did live in San Francisco for many years and can attest that the worst drivers in that part of the world are Chinese. No contest. I did, however, spend a bit of time in Cairo and in that city the worst drivers are all Egyptians. In Santa Rosa, California, where I lived for a time, the worst drivers were blue hairs from that retirement community down on Highway 12 the name of which escapes me now. These days, now that we live in Ajijic, it is clear that the worst drivers in the entire universe are all taking turns entering and leaving the parking lot at Super Lake at all hours of the day.

How long did it take you to figure that one out?

Absolutely right Dawg. We park a block away and walk. Cheaper than auto body repairs, even in Mexico.
