Lots and lots of police
Sitting on my terraza, I've been watching at least 30 police vehicles going west towards Jocotepec, at high speed.
First time I've seen so many. Anybody have a clue?

Re: Lots and lots of police
From Informador -
GUADALAJARA, JALISCO (16 / MAR / 2017) .- A group of people carried out an exchange of bullets on the Carretera a Chapala against police of the Fuerza Única regional, which in principle left five dead. State and municipal authorities already coordinate security in the area to avoid harm to others.
According to the first reports, the events occurred near the crossing with the release to Ajijic, heading for Jocotepec, where apparently the attackers opened fire on the agents.
A Tundra van was abandoned on the site. At least two people fled on a motorcycle and staff of the State Attorney General deployed a search in the area.
After the confrontation, the Attorney General secured a van, a long weapon, five short guns and two grenades.

Re: Lots and lots of police
El Molino is the town that sits between the curves on the highway that connects to the highway to Guad from Jocotepec - in the Jocotepec Municipality. In other words, when leaving Joco pueblo and arriving at the Crucero you take a right and go about 5 miles when the road takes a tight curve to the right and on the left is the village of El Molino with a couple of topes. The road then takes a tight turn to the left and climbs. El Molino is historically known as it had several corn mills in the old days and the people had to travel with their corn harvest to El Molino to get it ground.
These days, the areas surrounding the village and in the hills have been used as dumping grounds for bodies.

News reports are saying that it started with the kidnapping of an officer of the elite Fuerza Única police unit in Jocotepec. He was later found dead and the five supposed sicarios were shot to death where he was found. Also, a responding Jocotepec Municipal Police unit with four officers was stopped by the Fuerza Única who called them "crooked" and damaged their vehicle.

Re: Lots and lots of police
To be precise about location, news reports indicate the deadly confrontation took place on the dirt road to San Marcos, leading off Hwy 15 about half way between El Molino and the west end of the Joco bypass.

No I watched them go west past the Jocotopec sign. I understand it was in El Molino which is West of Jocotopec.

Thanks metiche, I know that road. I guess we can probably assume there are some bodies down around San Marcos and the dry lake beds. . .

Re: Lots and lots of police
Discussing El Molino with a friend, both of us long-term (10+ years) residents, we both said that we had long admired the quaint little village and aspired to have a home overlooking the little lake. What do we know??? Apparently it is a narco stronghold. But, of course, the narco bosses live elsewhere--no big walled enclaves in this quiet quaint village, from what I can see. Not even a good restaurant for shoot-outs.

Re: Lots and lots of police
I know someone who used to board her horses halfway between Joco and El Molino. The ranch owner told her to always ride south of the ranch, toward Joco. NEVER north because that was El Molino territory and not safe. He said that if her horse came home without her, he would only look to the south.

Re: Lots and lots of police
Darn. And I thought all the narcos owned fancy houses at Lakeside. 2 of them apparently commute by helicopter. Well, I guess that is just the jefes, who will not bother us--too busy having a good time here, quietly, thank God.
