Kindle Fire Apps
Love my new toy, boy is it addicting!
There are a few apps I've been trying to download but I keep getting the message that my CC and address are out of the US. Not true!!! For some reason, tho, I have been able to download a book. . .just one so far. Is it because I'm showing Mexican ISP/wifi? wtf??? Going to the states next month, maybe with US wifi I can download???
I've found work-arounds for a few things but it's mysterious to me, seems unfair, and inconsistent - and a PITA!

Oh, yeah. Then there's this notice from Amazon Prime - whose time is running out btw. . .
"We're sorry
You are not eligible to purchase this app due to geographical restrictions."

One of the Kindle Fire HD's was received as a Christmas present and I had no problem downloading App's here NOB. While we did bring the unit with us on our February trip, we were so damned busy, we didn't give it a true test. I did play with some of the downloaded apps and never received a restricted message. You may have to to use an ISP hide to download what you wish?

Re: Kindle Fire Apps
Yes, probably true. I'll know that for sure when I try downloading in the states.
Actually, it seems between being able to download books and the internet, maybe apps aren't that important after all.

Doubtful you can get a "IP Masking" app for the Kindle.
Re: Kindle Fire Apps
Au Contraire! That is exactly what I thought but when one goes through the App Store and plays with the applications, it is amazing what one can do!

Re: Kindle Fire Apps
If they offer a masking app then why bother geographically restricting where you can download apps from? Doesn't make a lot of sense unless the app they allow is rigged so you can't download anything while it is in use. I would be interested in hearing from someone who is using such an app on their Kindle down here.

Your post slid in there when I was responding to Trailrunner and had no bearing on your comments about masking apps. It was all in the timing while it doesn't appear that way. Please give me a bit of time to see if there are masking apps available for our Fire.

If you can't download apps from the App Store, how can you play with them?
Why do they geographically restrict anyway???? It's costing them money in lost sales.

Come on Trailrunner! Virtually everything that Amazon deals with (books, movies, etc) have copyrights or legal restrictions for differing areas! And why should that be any great surprise?

Huh? I've never had a problem with Amazon. Not only do I buy books, clothes, CDs, etc from them and ship them to my PO Box in MX, they sell my books for me. Never had any kind of a problem! ymmv
In terms of that link . . . if you scroll back a few, you'll see I was the one who posted it originally!

All ereaders and tablets restrict purchases outside their home country. Digital rights and all that. Just like network TV shows.
However, if you have a credit card and address in the country of origin, you bypass this.

I am using a US address and CC and I can now buy books and music but not apps. It says payment method and address is out of the US and I need blah blah blah. Funny, huh? Able to buy books and music but not apps.

And I bought my Kindle from Amazon in the U.S. (before they were available at Amazon in Canada) and paid with a Canadian Credit Card that has a Mexican Address. That's also the way that we buy e-books from Amazon for the Kindle.
Sumthin's weird...but then you have to remember that we were unable to buy Apps for the iPad3 using that same credit card and had to resort to purchasing an itunes card from Walmart here to get around it. Maybe "Apps" are the problem?

Re: Kindle Fire Apps
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, apps are the problem.
If it matters, the only apps I've tried to "buy", and have been denied, are free magazines - Nat Geo and others.
Weird.

Re: Kindle Fire Apps
I cannot imagine why you can't buy apps under those circumstances. Make sure your Amazon account for apps is shown as being in the U.S. on the order pages. I order Kindle books all the time, using my Cdn. credit card and address. And free anything, no problem.Trailrunner wrote:HelperGuy wrote:All ereaders and tablets restrict purchases outside their home country. Digital rights and all that. Just like network TV shows.

Just to let you know the app issues have been resolved. Apparently the country setting had not been saved and reverted to MX, all is well now. Thanks for all your help!

I said to the wife, "Get me a newspaper"
"Don't be silly," she said "You can borrow my iPad"
That spider never knew what hit it.
