US AUTO INSURANCE ISSUE
We are insured with Geico, home and auto....both are annual policies. Geico just cancelled our auto insurance because we start coverage the day we enter USA, suspend usually 30 days later, reactivate next trip. Can anybody recommend a company that wouldn't have an issue with these circumstances?
TIA

You might check with Progressive? We have found their rates to be great but cannot give you any insight into claims since we haven't made any.

Re: US AUTO INSURANCE ISSUE
Jim, the issue I face is that I will not lie to the insurance company, since that could result with no coverage when you need it most, and many insurance companies in the US will not insure non-residents. We have a house in Nevada with a Nevada plated car, and I spent a few hours on the phone when the first policy we had, arranged by an agent, who misled the company about our resident status, cancelled the policy. We finally found a carrier who was ok with us being non-residents. It should be able to be done in every state, as I also did it in Texas several years ago.
I keep the insurance on year round, as we have an older vehicle in Nevada, so only carry the required coverages, so it is not too expensive, but each insurer will have its own tolerance level for the amount of effort they will expend for the premium you pay. If you want to start and stop your coverage a few times each year, it may be that the income is not it worth it to the insurer, you might have better luck if you kept the policy in force, and just deleted the physical damage portions. Likely more costly, but easier to keep the insurer happy. Good luck.

My daughter uses them, she lives in New Zealand and when she comes to the states she either uses them or drives one of our cars and she is covered. For short trips she is covered on our policy. For extended stays she uses allainez.

Thanks CG......you silver tongued fox...LOL. I did cancel my Geico homeowners as a result of them terminating my auto ins effective 3/11...middle of trip! I have googled, and can't locate the company I used a couple years ago, that offers liability insurance in US for short term trips. Any help would be most appreciated

Re: US AUTO INSURANCE ISSUE
Jim, I use State Farm. When I suspend coverage I leave the Comprehensive on, as if the car was in storage. I tell insurance companies, banks, etc., that we have a house in Mexico and spend a lot of time there. I never say I "live in Mexico." Be candid with your next agent and tell them you go back and forth.

Re: US AUTO INSURANCE ISSUE
Thanks David. Because we made Geico aware we were driving to Mexico 3-4 times a year, they refuse to provide coverage for 6 months, why I haven't a clue! Probably wouldn't have been an issue if simply continued comprehensive as you suggested, as if vehicle was presumed to be in storage.
