That Mind Set
So, I cruised into centro today for something to eat and along the way I ran into a new-to-the-hood gringa. We chatted for a bit until she said she was bothered by the bus on her street but was going to 'take care of that soon'. Really! says I. How are you going to do that? Well, 2 other gringos and I are starting a petition to have them change the route. Really! says I again. So, you just moved here and already you want to change the bus route? buhbye

We can only hope in her process of getting that "changed soon", she holds her breath while doing so.....

Re: That Mind Set
We bought a home in Ajijic because it was near a bus and taxi line. In San Cristobañ de Las Casas this was not an issue as there are non-metered taxis all over the city charging the same inexpensive fare anywhere in town and always available within five minutes for a ride anywhere. within the city

I just noted there are Ubers in Guadalajara, but nothing Lakeside.
I like buses, they can be reasonably comfortable and the "local" ones give you a chance to watch the people and see different neighborhoods.
And I love the Plus bus to Guadalajara. $50 each way, very comfortable and WiFi. Then when you get to the bus station, taxies are really cheap.
Can't beat that IMO.

Re: That Mind Set
So 3 gringos are starting a petition to change a bus route...that should go really far... it would not go very far in any country I have lived in, I wonder where these people are from that they think that a few people complaining can change things?..

That is just amazing. She will not last long -- thankfully.

She and her husband are in a motorhome with Ontario plates and are probably in their fifties. She said she teaches music and her husband is a musician.
No. I agree. In fact, I give them 6 months max.

Re: That Mind Set
I remember being in Walmart one day waiting for a clerk in the jewelry department when an old gringa, who was also looking for a clerk, came up to me and said "there is never anyone here to help you, AND, when they do come they only speak Spanish." I could not believe she said that and never will forget it.

What you would have really loved was the indignant look she had on her face. I did tell her she was in Mexico now and the Mexicans speak Spanish. I hope, whomever she was, that she moved back NOB.

When she heads back to the border in that big motorhome I hope she takes a few others with her.........

My two personal favorites are:
The woman who said they had lived here for a month. Asked how she liked it, she said, "Well, when we first got here I thought it was a real shit hole but I am getting used to it." Surprisingly, they lasted 10 months before heading back NOB.
Woman I met who asked where I lived. When I said Chapala, she got a distasteful look on her face and said, "I could never live there. Too many Mexicans."

...and then there was the time I was sitting in a popular local doctor's waiting area (with a bunch of other patients also waiting) when the smartly dressed gringa next to me who had been looking at her watch every minute or so turned and asked if I knew how long the wait would be since she had appointments every half hour for the day.
I asked her how long she'd lived in Mexico. Two weeks.

Now that is funny!!!!
I use the 2/4 rule. If I have 4 things to buy and find 2 of them, it is a good day.....

Re: That Mind Set
Good question, Kip. I think they want the beautiful weather, higher standard of living than they can afford where they came from, and/or are enjoying having an adventure. They just need the nationals to change how they live to better suit the foreigners and it would be perfect. In the meantime, they hide out in their gringo enclaves and try to pretend the nationals don't exist.
