IS IT LEGAL?
If we legalize our car in Mexico, and once accross NOB switch plates back to say Arizona, then when returning to Mexico put the Mexican plates back on the vehicle? Just thinkin?

Are you afraid of being mistaken for a Mexican when in the fine State of Arizona? OH, I forgot, they don't racial profile there!

Jim:I wouldn't risk driving in Arizona with Mexican plates, you could end up in Sheriff Joe's pokey.

Damn You guys, I figured if I asked a legitimate question, early in the morning, You would give me quidance.. what was I thinking!!....TFF....Honestly, If I put the Mexican plates on prior to entry in Mexico, I would be legal, and would avoid having to buy or rent a car for use while staying in Mexico 5-6 months per year.

Re: IS IT LEGAL?
I think the illegal part would be putting Arizona plates on a Mexican registered vehicle. It would likely affect any insurance you had too.
Re: IS IT LEGAL?
Jim,all kidding aside I don't see why that wouldn't work.
I just read CBob's post,he might have a point, but if it's still registered in Arizona....

I guess the real question is can you have a vehicle registered in more than one place?

Chris/Bob, The vehicle would still be legally registered in Arizona, smogged and all, including auto insurance.......maybe call it my "DUAL" auto.
Hopefully Spencer will weigh in!

Re: IS IT LEGAL?
You can't have a car registered in two countries. You insurance will likely be null and void if you have an accident or at least that is what thay will use as an excuse to not cover it.

Exactly my point David. My Mexican Insurance company...Auto....has no info regarding travel NOB. When I activate my Geico on the way NOB, I don't bother deactivating Mexican Insurance.....to much hastle, and it doesn't cover me NOB, and Geico doesn't cover me SOB! I doubt it is an insurance issue!
I probably should have headed this thread differently......What are penalties for having vehicle legalized in two countries? One can get duplicate copies of titles from US, so having Mexican and USA title is EZ PZ.

Good question,it seems unlikely that Mexico and the State of Arizona would be sharing data with each other.David wrote:Sounds like it would be, but how would they know?

Thanks Chris, I don't pretend to know the law, but I am willing to risk forfeiture of a vehicle, if I am caught, with a dual " LMAO " citizenship vehicle! Unless Mexico and USA and Canada are sharing legalized vehicle info....or the insurance companies....it would be virtually impossible!

The US requires vehicles that are exported to pass a 72 hour revision at the point of exit. The title gets a date stamp. The VIN enters a data base.

You may have the plates but would you still have the AZ registration papers to support them?

They run a title check for liens and stolen vehicles. Its an attempt to prevent stolen cars from being shipped overseas.

Maybe you should start a raffle on just exactly how long it takes for Jim to get caught at this scam and then what it costs him. Maybe a "life sentence" in Arizona?

Yes, actually, no, My registration, plates expired in 2007. Oregon refused to allow me to renew on line, until I had the vehicle DEQ'd, since this would require a 2500 mile one way trip, have been looking into South Dakota plates.
