Re: Fishing Lake Chapala
I have company visiting from Feb. 5 to 12 so it needs to be before or after those dates. RB thinks the best fishing may be up around Mezcala Island. I suppose we could either rent a Chapala boat and get there via the lake or drive to Mezcala and rent a local boat there.
What are you thinking RB?
Also, does anyone know where to buy any hooks locally. The ones I have are too big. I know Walmart had them but someone said their fishing gear is no longer stocked.

What size hooks do we need?

Something about 1/2 the size of those Bass hooks.
Re: Fishing Lake Chapala
I've found size 4 hooks work best. Something with a longer shank will allow more bait to be used, which is a good thing. I mentioned fishing off Mescala Island because it's so scenic and a natural wind block, and the carp don't seem to give a rip. Besides, if the fishing is slow we can always explore the island. I'd recommend driving and renting a boat from there to save the long boat ride from Chapala.

Sounds good. Let me see if my dad wants to go as he is the one visiting on the 5th. If not we can do it either before or after his visit.

Bob
Could your dad be convinced to bring a bunch of #4 long shank hooks with him? I'm sure we could all buy some from him.
I still need to find a rod and real but that would be useless without hooks anyway.

Re: Fishing Lake Chapala
My dad is already in Guayabitos. Walmart has a ton of hooks, bobbers and and miscellaneous fishing supplies. I was looking at them yesterday. They just don't have rods and reels at this time of the year.
If you want to go into Guadalajara you can get rods and reels at Black Bass.
